JULY 2011 - Prince (Chang Dee) is a retired circus elephant donated voluntarily to PAWS, at its request, by Feld Entertainment, the parent company of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey. He was born on May 24, 1987, at the Portland Zoo - part of their "highly touted" captive breeding program. Prince's mother was Me-tu, also born at Portland Zoo; his father was Hugo. After a cross-country trip by truck, he arrived at PAWS on July 21, 2011, and is now the next-door-neighbor to Nicholas, another Asian bull elephant and retired circus performer.
Prince arrived at PAWS' ARK 2000 Sanctuary in San Andreas, CA, on the evening of July 21, 2011. He stayed in his barn that night and the next day was ready to be introduced to his outdoor yard, pools (see other videos) and large habitat. When the gate was opened, he moved cautiously into the big habitat for more treats, hay, branches and grazing.
