I watched this video, and a week later I walked into my school in the morning and when I went past the Principle's office, I heard your voice from the vid! I was so surprised and it turns out my school's staff were watching the video together!! It's amazing how social media can give you a voice and change the world, and I appreciate you inspiring and motivating millions of people, including myself, to live life to the fullest and love. @kennymendoza8073
7 жыл бұрын
totolo I don't agree with some of the arguments on why the school system is bad, but this one definitely resonates with me. Memorizing is not the same as understanding. Any decent geometry teacher will tell you that (or any decent teacher for that matter). I live in a place where education is top of the line in America, so we have a TON of courses available for students such as myself. My school has even gone as far as to make a government, health, and economy class required (3 separate classes). I believe that mathematics is important until geometry, and the rest really isn't necessary for many students to learn (that being said I am a sophomore in high school taking Honors Precalculus who thoroughly enjoys mathematics). History is important, and the material that basic history classes teach is correct and should be analyzed. Notice I said analyzed, not memorized. We should use history classes to educate kids on what we should avoid in our politics of the future, not just have them memorize hub dates. I also believe that English/language classes are important to learn so we can have a better understanding of how to convey our thoughts. My school for example offers Speech and Communication as a class, and counts it as an English class. It helps teach students how to feel more comfortable in voicing their thoughts and opinions. Science is important to understand, but like mathematics is only necessary for all students to know until a certain point. Students should learn about physics and chemistry and anything before that so they have a better understanding of the world we live in, but anything more advanced should be left for those who want to pursue science as a career. I myself am taking AP Physics I and II next year, because I want to major in Theoretical Physics, Nuclear Physics and Engineering, and (one other major not sure what yet). Computer classes should be completely optional (except for one class which teaches the basics of electronics and how to use them properly for whatever you need to do on them (take notes, work on projects etc.)).

Become the president, make things right, and make things fitted to student needs! Its the right thing to do! Cause me, at school all I do is what they say that's all I get to do and learn. It would be much better if schools were like college if you know what I mean. You get to choose what you mainly want to learn, but yet- still have Math, Language Arts, and Social Studies. All of those will likely be needed. My point is that we students, learn better and more quicker and we are comfortable with suited stuff to be able to learn more better and happier then most do now cause you don't get to choose the electives for some schools in certain grades like mine. I hope my word could reach out to others who have situations like mine. Thank you Prince Ea for the encouragement that you will give me for my life as I grow older and see the world as a better place.
@famasymas7

I have three questions is how many of your classmates really know what they want to be in life or what they want to pursue in college? Would you trust a 14 year old to pick their major in college if asked today? I think the school system is decent as it is, with the sensible children taking dual or AP studies. The more mechanically inclined students could go into vocational school if need be, altough the child has to have the drive to make something of themself.
@dazzamcg2369
7 жыл бұрын
the school system is not decent at all and plenty of teachers even know something needs to change..there is a reason finland out classes our education system and its cause they are doing something right..there are pointless things being taught thats mandatory and that should be a choice subject..let the students choose what they want to learn..subjects that will actually make an impact on what they want to do in life...why make students completely stressed with the extra homework and revision thats not needed on what they want to do...keep the basic subjects like english and math mandatory but change the way the other subjects are taught...things that students will actually need in the real world

I'm in the middle of my high school senior year, and I'm a full IB student. As I look back, I realize that I didn't learn how to freak out, to have a mental breakdown, until the last half of my junior year. I was always that girl who was level headed, somebody people would look to for comfort. I've already cried in school three times in the past 2 years. That might not seem like a lot, but I HATE crying in front of people, and I have never cried over school or in school, EVER. I know now what it feels like to hate myself and I really don't want to. I'm tired of hating myself and I'm tired of crying, but it's just this ongoing struggle between caring about school and caring about myself.

I am/was an IB student, who finished as class of 2016. Even getting this far without leaving school with burnout is already an achievement. Once you are done with IB you have so many choices. That is the only thing you can look forward to doing the IB. Good luck with your final exams. Study hard for those one last time and afterwards you can chill. Keep calm, sleep enough and do enough exercise outside of school! People have probably told you that a lot of the time but it helps. One last advice: all the way at the end, do not try to learn the things you have not understood but instead strengthen your knowledge on the topics you have understood because the struggle to learn those things that you weren't able to understand during your study period prior to exams will cause you to forget a lot of the things you knew.

Me: I'm so confused Teacher: moves on Me: gets bad grade on the test Teacher: moves on My mom: yells at me for my grade Me: wears off the shoulder shirt Teacher: detention, expelled, you're going to work at McDonald's, jail time, execution. Anyways This video made me tear up because my mom always tells me how I used to love learning (I went to a Montessori School) and I can't remember because it was so long ago and I go to public school now. Every Sunday I want to cry because I have to do an ass load (sry for my language) of homework, the next day is Monday, and Chick-fil-A is closed. The thought of school makes me want to puke. And I am so smart, and I love learning, but the school system is so messed up! Mostly everyone at school is messed up too. Your grades determine if your smart or stupid, so many kids are depressed and want to die, no on does anything about it, kids vape and slowly are killing themselves, and they don't feel like they can talk about it to any adult, for they feel like they would be in trouble! It's ridiculous. And has anyone ever thought that maybe the world is messed up because the majority of the kids in every generation of students go through school and their creativity and personalities get taken away and they become "lazy, stupid, rebellious teens" that murder, hurt, bully, or harass other human beings. We our messing up our own earth, our home, because the school systems today can't actually teach us about REAL life, or prepare us for the REAL world, or teach us what is right and wrong, and it's probably because back then they were taught the same things as we are being taught today.

In my case I failed alot of my subjects just cause (as one of my teachers said) even though I was performing great they had to fail my grades because I was always being too tardy and always comes late and my attendance is not good which I find pretty absurd because I live alone and sometimes I couldn't manage it any longer and end up go weeks without proper sleep or go to school without sleep and even has to push myself even if I get sick because of how much work there is and I know that reason alone of being tardy does not define my intellect. Why don't they try looking deeper into why me or every students actually do bad in school? Teachers also make fun of me because I don't have emotions (not literally but I am always down and talks without emotion because I do have mental illnesses), It's pretty ironic since ain't their job to actually also help students on their mental state? My bad I had to include my own life here but I had to bring this up because I know alot of people struggle with situations of something like this and I want to state that it does not define any of us. edit: i had to repeat a year because of that mere reason and now that im doing great my current teachers ask why i had to repeat they were shocked by the reason of how illogical it really was and i know attendance is also an important thing to train us for the future to learn time management and stuff but isnt it too extra to actually drop someone in school because of that one reason?

I know what its like to suffer from a mental illness and have teachers basically "bully" you for it. I had depression and even now I still have a few depressive moments and one day I got in trouble at school for it. I did something THEY made me regret. And instead of saying, 'look it is okay!' They just said, 'you only did this for attention.' They got mad at me because of my own illness. I know its probably selfish to rant about what i've through but all i'm trying to say is i know what it is like.

It’s just that You are late for a job You think your boss will give any fucks about your excuse Mostly not If it’s once or twice they might just let it go but if it’s a lot then R.I.P. all the people I have seen being late are always talking in hallways, or just playing around or just don’t wanna go to their class I can understand where you are coming from but it’s not like they can just say it’s okay everytime you come late and then punish the others for doing the same

Haha, I'm a weird child, I guess. I'm that straight A person, although unlike some other people, I don't really think or consider myself smart. Hardworking? Yes. Smart? No. In any case, the main reason is probably because I still find learning things enjoyable despite the objectively terrible environment. History, Language Arts, etc are actually quite interesting to me (although I'll admit my teachers make it a struggle sometimes). Like, I can tell you about the Boston Massacre from eight grade and how two soldiers were surrounded by citizens yelling at them to shoot them. (Fun fact, the other solider left to report it their superior and by the time the citizens started yelling that, he thought it was his superior's order. Thus, he opened fire and ala la viva, the Boston Massacre is a thing.) If you really really really try, you can force yourself to get something out of school. So, uhh, yeah thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

I'm on the honor roll and I get nothing out of school, i work so hard for every answer I give to my assignments, quizzes, exams and for what so that I could forget all of them . I learned everything on the internet, learn english, learn facts, learn history etc. School made my life a living hell, I tried so hard making something positive out of it but my brain constantly reminds of the failures I have done, Society would rather praise you for an acedemic genius who has stock knowledge bigger than a warehouse than an animator (in my case)

I just need to thank you so much for making the video. My country (Malaysia) 's educational system is at least 100 years older than the educational system in America. We are yelled at and given demerits for talking, not wearing the school socks, stating our actual opinions, for having crushes, having piercings bigger than a coin, not wearing a tie, not tying our hair, wearing nail polish, having fashionable clothing on. Now, I could go on and on but I'll get to my next point, the option to be ourselves. Students are forced to be exactly the same. I quote my current science teacher by saying 'You all have to braid your hair because we want you to look neat, nice and presentable'. Why? Why does the system want us to be exactly alike when we can all be different while expressing ourselves and being the potential that we have? I always hated the system and the school for letting my classmates and almost every student think they're not good enough or that they are stupid. My friend just came to me earlier today and said "I failed science, I am so stupid." I am upset my friends think a letter on a ridiculous piece of paper defines their entire life, I am upset my whole family think I am a complete loser for not getting straight A's in the most important exam of 7th grade. Even the subject Kemahiran Hidup (literally translates to 'Lifeskills') is thought by making us write down everything from the 300+ paged textbook again in over exercise book. So thank you, Prince for addressing this ongoing tragedy in just 6 shorts minutes.

Felicity Foo I feel you. Though it doesnt seem like we can fight the dress code thing since most of Asia has specified school uniforms and strict attire. My friend got into a huge fight with my teacher because he wore the wrong sock colour😂 But what you said about your friend who failed science - that i can truly relate. I know friends who genuinely believe their future is completely ruined because they failed just ONE subject. And being from singapore, whew....competition is tough :/ Anything short of excellence is inadequate. Parents always tell us to work hard to become doctor or engineer etc. cos living in singapore is just so expensive. Though as much as it is competitive, i think theres still alot of benefits to an education system like this. But of course, theres room for improvement :)
@3lH4ck3rC0mf0r7

Oh, do I hate dresscodes too. I just wish my parents had a bigger attitude towards MY school (I know they disagree, they even told me they do), so that if I went with a better attire, and they returned me back home, my parents would refuse to accept it and send me BACK. I know I'd do that with my kids, and call it fuck 'em. They're paying to educate me in it's original, etymological meaning, not to be fed bullshit. I'm not gonna swallow it either. I now have a filter on classrooms and learn whatever I do think I'll need.

I am also from Malaysia and I totally agree with all of your statement. I'm currently studying very hard for my upcoming SPM next week. Another things I hate about our country educational system is the big different gap between the school in west and the school in the east(I'm from east; Sabah). Trust me, people in the west can easily go to any university they want after SPM but we from the east....pffft(unless u got demm moneyyy$$ then it's finee)

There is this thing I noticed in many students including myself, and I wanna share it with y’all We learn stuff at school right? Then we have to study and study for an exam, And just like he said, we throw up the info out on the exam, but then.... we forget everything we learned, because of all other subjects and lessons, and the pressure on the students. So in the end, we don’t learn anything, maybe a bit, but 87% is forgotten, we are humans not damn machines!

The education system is broken. For example, each homework I get takes at least 1 hour to do, and most of the time teachers don't care. The reason? A lot of teachers don't want to give us homework, they are just forced to by people in higher power within the school

He has great leadership skills no doubt but him being President would not solve the issue. If he became President he would become part of the problem. His role and messages he preaches goes against the government we have today in the US. Our government is deeply flawed. Thats why he says he would resign as soon as he would become President. His ideas about having better ways to teach our youth goes against the system the government have put in place. And I get his message is alot deeper than school and getting a good carrer. There is alot of bad habits we need to do away with in order to truly move foward as humans but in order for true change in America we need to rebuild the way the government operates and do away with the old practices. And that calls for a revolution...a revolution to change ones self for the better. That is where it begins.
