Such a massive improvement over For You, his songwriting is starting to branch out on this album with tracks like Bambi. From this point on you better put on your seatbelt. Dirty Mind's production is so raw and unpredictable as opposed to the comfortable and relatively safe sounds up to now. It was an incredibly bold move that he chose to transition so radically after having a significant chart success with the self titled.

This album was my introduction to Prince and I saw him live when the new year came around in 1980 and have been a big fan ever since. I agree that the track Bambi is a bit weird lyrically but Prince often talks about controversial things to service the story of the album. If you really think about it, this is a continuation of the storyline of For You. In For You, Prince was head over heals in love but now they are having all kinds of relationship issues and he is insecure about the thought of her leaving him for a woman and it causes him to act in ways he should not in Bambi. It all culminates with Its Gonna Be Lonely, the album ends on a somber note as its clear she has left him.

A great reaction and review Jesse! I too am new to Prince and I am enjoying being on this musical journey with you! If you are going to do interviews later on in your journey, I would suggest, in addition to the Mel B one I suggested earlier. He did an interview with Oprah around the time of the release of his “Emancipation” album. He is interviewed both alone and with his wife at the time, Mayte Garcia. It is a bit sad though considering a few days before, they had lost their son due to Pfeiffer Syndrome Type 2. That part is sad, to see them pretending to be okay and smiling through it. But, the overall interview is great with some musical performances by The One And Only: Prince! Would love to see you check that one out as well sometime after you listen to his “Emancipation” album! I am loving this musical journey and will be here until the very end, though it might take a while, lol. Can’t wait for more!!! Subscribed!

I Feel For You was covered by Chaka Khan, which was a HUGE hit in the early 80s for her!

It’s a great album and still the beginning 💜 Two random things - 1) You need your own reality dating show! 2) Check out Britney and Justin singing “I Feel For You” on the Mickey Mouse Club
