I have a Starfish and Coffee tattoo. It's a starfish hopping out of a cup of coffee. It has a rose on the coffee mug and a banner that says "Cynthia Rose." It's in the style of Dr. Suess. I get A LOT of compliments on it. I love it even more when people know what it's in reference to. :-) It's my all-time favorite song.

Oh my gosh this is amazing, I was just telling my friends how I want to get a tattoo based on this song! My mum's such a huge Prince fan and this is one of her faves, but its because the song reminds her of me as I never wear matching socks. I can't wait to get a tattoo of a starfish in a coffee cup, probably with odd socks hahah

As an educator I can totally relate to this song. A song about unconventional kids who walk to a different beat. These kids make my day and always bring a smile to my face. Prince found inspiration from the most unlikely places. He was otherworldly.

Prince himself was unconventional, if you look at what his childhood and teenage years were like, he came from a broken home, found a surrogate family with his best friends Andre Anderson (AKA Andre Cymone) and Morris Day and found solace in music. There are documentaries about Prince which have his former educators speaking about him. All of them agree about the fact that an ordinary kid he certainly wasn't.

Interesting. Because the song was based and co written by Susannah Melvoin, (Wendy’s Twin Sister) told him. She told him about her own primary school class and about a girl in that class who was Autistic. The girls name was Cynthia Rose. Each time the girl was asked what she had for breakfast, she’d say ‘Starfish and Pee Pee’! Prince took the ‘pee pee’ out and changed it to ‘coffee’. He thought it sounded better! Susannah runs a charity and a website called Starfish and Coffee. It raisers funds and awareness for people on the Spectrum. Even way back then when Autism wasn’t much understood, Prince was way ahead of his time.

I think we all have a story with a song, and this is mine; My name is actually Cinthya, and I suffered bullying and a great strict thing with my parents while I was growing, School was always being the important thing here, but I really didn't get the greatest grades, till this day in college I'm really trying my best, it wasnt till 20 years later when I learned that I have ADHD and all those years I really felt bad with myself, I really thought that something was wrong with me, Thanks to Prince this song really makes me feel better everyday, I really wished to tell him this, I miss him. Updated: Hi everyone, thanks for ur support, I was recently diagnosed Alexithymia, I talk with my parents they're currently supporting me (No as I will like but its good) I'm taking my meds 2nd Update: hey there, I posted this comment in 2020, currently 2023, just a couple of months back I learned I'm autistic, I feel so relieved now, and currently I'm working on myself

The Beautiful Purple One... As I sit here still in shock with pen in hand and tears streaming, I can't help but wish that this was just a case of bad dreaming. Never in a million years did I ever think I'd be writing this, About the man who hailed from Minneapolis, Who gave us songs like Adore & Kiss. I am writing this from the bottom of my heart so I definitely don't want it to sound like a cliché, With that being said I won't go through your discography and rhyme anything with Purple Rain or Raspberry Beret. You were given monikers like The Purple One and The Artist Formerly Known As Prince, In my lifetime I can't recall anyone as unique as you before your arrival or since. I remember back in the day seeing your handsome face on many teen mags, Everyone couldn't stop talking about your hairstyles or your rags! From 'Pop Life' came my favorite lyrics: What's the matter with your life is the poverty Bringing you down is the mailman running you 'round...did he put your million dollar check in someone else's box. Man, you did splits, twirls and push ups that seemed to go on for blocks! I was deeply touched when I read about your philanthropical endeavors, I remember when you reached out to help Marva Collins West Side Prepatory through turbulent weather. I loved all of your collaborations with artists from Sheila E. And Chaka Khan, to Vanity Six To Stevie Nicks, From Sheena Easton to The Bangles the list goes on and on. You introduced us to Morris Day & The Time You jammed with the Muppets to a nursery Rhyme. The soundtrack to Purple Rain colored most of my high school experience so to speak, The Purple One and The Gloved One were neck and neck thrilling audiences on MTV each week! Now as fans we must pay tribute to the man who took us 'Uptown' and transported us through time, With his multi platinum selling album 1999. Thanks for The Diamonds & Pearls and The Most Beautiful Girl In The World. You said in life there would be Controversies abound but I know that in death Heaven is what you found. Luv you, Prince.
