Huge thanks. As I too am just now moving to a Klipper machine after a year of Marlin, you can't imagine the help this provides.

I’m so glad I found this video, I have a Manta 8 plus everything to go with ion it’s way to me. I have three industrial printers to convert to Klipper and I have no clue where to start until now. Thank you very much for your time and for your patient teaching style as this is the difference between success and box of parts dumped in the corner forever.

Hey I wanted to make it a point to thank you, in the last 3 weeks I did my first 2 builds. First one was a Voron 0.2 witch was very easy all copy paste config and straight forward ssh stuff. My next was a Micron + kit from Formbot witch comes with BTT Manta, cb1 and ebb36 used witch CAN…I tried myself and almost went usb with this build till I found your vid and followed along, wasn’t a first shot deal for me but I was able to get it done because of your vid. I couldn’t get the ebb36 uuid till I changed the baud to 250000. It’s done now so thank you again, I would have never gotten CAN working without your videos.

Can't help but think of food with BLT - :) Includes are fantastic way to make the configs easier to manage and read. I like that Klipper has this. The config files are what sets this apart from Marlin in my mind as Marlin's configuration is all embedded deeper in the code structure, where Klipper can virtually be changed on the fly.

Excellent video! We'll done! Yes I would be interested in a more detailed video of printer.cfg. Maybe a video on how to send a stl file to the printer using klipper.
@StackingLayers
8 ай бұрын
That you can't really do. You need to use a slicer program to make a gcode file from the STL file. then that file gets sent to klipper. Open the web interface and drag and drop the gcode file.

This video may be OK for some (Who have some experience), but this tutorial 'suddenly' opens up into some unknown program showing the config file (plus others) without explaining how to get in there in the first place.
@StackingLayers
5 ай бұрын
It's opened in mainsail, the web interface that a vast majority of klipper installations comes with. I didn't show how to get there because if one is trying to understand what's in the printer.cfg file, mainsail or fluidd has likely already been installed. I suppose you could make a printer.cfg in notepad++ or some other editor prior to setting up klipper and the rest needed to use klipper. To get to this, klipper, moonraker, and mainsail or fluidd has to be installed on the host computer (raspberry pi or similar alternative.) then you put the IP address of the host in your browser of choice. Once opened, select machine to show the machine configs and info. The file, if created, will be there. If there isn't a default printer.cfg you will need to add one using the new file option or by importing one.

So, you can set up the file in any way you want but need organization? I'm confused as what to put where?
@StackingLayers
10 ай бұрын
Organization is to help keep things easy to find. Like keep your stepper definitions together and fans together. Don't just mix them up as it can make it troublesome to find things later. Also it's good practice to keep the Include stuff at the top.

hi, great video thanks! I'm using the free Qidi slicer program and it won't let me edit the printer.cfg file like you can... any ideas?
@StackingLayers

This isn't the slicer profile, it's the printer configuration file to let klipper firmware know how to interface with the hardware.

It won't show if the [bed_mesh] part of the printer.cfg is not correctly set up.
@oscarvogel2140

It's possible that printer.cfg doesn't contain a [bed mesh] and you need to find one and copy/paste it into printer.cfg.

So, do you know to access the SD card from within klipper and if someone wanted to go back to the original firmware such as Marlin.
@StackingLayers
9 ай бұрын
The SD card on the host is basically the hard-drive of the system. So loading files is done through the web interface, just drag and drop, or with a file transfer protocol. If you want to go back to Marlin, you just flash the marlin firmware on the controller board. Nothing more is needed. You could then set up octoprint on the host computer if you wanted. That works great with marlin.
@zk_6312

@@StackingLayers I tried that, but it would not read the card which is why I thought my board was dead. So, I ssh'd into my orange pi and used kiauh to detect the mcu through USB. I was able to configure klipper mostly except the board is not attached to a printer right now. I tried putting Marlin firmware on an sd card, but it did not read the card or recognize the file. I know the hardware sees the card as a green led comes on when I insert the sd card. I guess I will have to hook it up to my printer and see what happens.
@StackingLayers

What SD are you referring to? One in the controller is used for flashing firmware only and is not accessible by klipper. Those need to be formatted to FAT32 and some boards won't read if the card is over 8GB. Also depending on the board, the firmware file name is very important. For example for bigtreeTech boards only firmware.bin will work, whereas with creality, from what ive read, you cannot use the same name as the previous file that was flashed. If you are using klipper you must install the klipper firmware onto the controller board not just the pi. Marlin firmware is a standalone firmware not compatible with klipper

@@StackingLayers The sd card on the SKR Mini E3 V3.0. I will try it again. Well, the board is working again after putting marlin back on. I guess there was an issue with the sd card. I made sure it was formatted properly this time to fat32 and nothing else was on the card except the firmware.bin. weird though when I put klipper on my 8-bit board when I was just testing things out that the stock display actually worked with klipper. It does not work with the SKRMini E3 V3 though. Oh, well, at least I know what to expect now when I install klipper.

@TheRealHelios I normally recommend against company themed slicers. The original ones are free and up to date. Maybe try a clean install of Cura or something else like Orca slicer and see if you experience the same issue. Just to make sure, the file is being exported as a .gcode file right

Are you talking about the z virtual endstop? That depends on the user's setup. If they are using a probe of some sort yes. If actual endstops are used then no, the 2 lines above that would be uncommented instead.
