May 16th is National Drawing Day, but why draw something when you can do letterpress printing? For today, Howard printed an image from two woodcuts that was made roughly 125-130 years ago from the Lewis Winter Collection.
These woodcuts, like most woodcuts, started out as a drawing before the desired image was hand-carved backwards on a woodblock. It would be carved backwards because anything we print, we get the mirror image. These woodcuts depict a spur and a horse bridle. It is very small but you can see “L. Winter” next to each image. These are some of the more detailed woodcuts in the Winter Collection.
