Kate Maxwell is a wonderfully complex character superbly played by Kate Hood. These tender & touching scenes between Kath & Merle are excellently acted (by both actors) & an absolute joy to watch & enjoy. Even after all these years, no other series (for me), comes close to Prisoner.

+Angie x I meet a man once, very much like her, who ended up with a life sentence for arson, having been goaded into setting fire to a mattress. When I met him he'd already been inside for over 30 years, and I was told he stood no chance of ever being paroled. Sadly there are thousands of people like that in prisons.

Angie x Dear, it happens more often than you might think. I worked in the mental health system, and saw too much abuse like Merrill went through. And they had no one in their corner to fight for them. So many get lost in the system, and once lost, they're left on their own. It became too overwhelming, and I had to walk away before I ended up on the inside also.

I love seeing Roach in these episodes. She's a decent unoffensive sort of character. But I do feel like pointing out that she wouldn't have got 6 months jail time for a 'plastic gun' armed robbery in the UK in the mid 1980's. She would have been staring down the barrel at 5 years probably. The judges in the UK at the time (and I assume by extension that the Australian judges also) REALLY didn't take kindly to the crime of armed robbery. My ex-wife had a nephew who got 5 years just for being the getaway driver during an armed robbery when he was 18. And if the (in)famous 'Judge Pickles' had been presiding that day in court, he would probably have got 10 years. lol
