I am a “rusty” CFI just trying to get back into flying. I thank God for your forum. This is info that I not only am learning from, but I send others to also. Thanks again, and God Bless

Checkride inspector: "So, how much horsepower does an F-4 have?" Jason: "Uhhh... can I take back my previous answer?" LOL, just bustin' on you! You make great videos, and have great insights and observations that include your weaknesses, and that's a fantastic learning tool. Just before watching this, I watched your vid diverting around weather around Tampa while heading to the AOPA event, and I think your decision to be more cautious exemplifies the saying "there are old pilots, and bold pilots- but there are no old, bold pilots".

Jason, I have been with you for a few years now and never fail to learn something from each podcast, video, or publication. I am now starting my Commercial/CFI training and something you said in this video hit me in the gut...foundation. In looking back at my own training, I absolutely feel the foundation is not as strong as it needs to be. I too started flight training in my teens and am now in my late fourties preparing to move into my second career in aviation. The techniques taught in the landing fundamentals video were awesome and made me want to go jump in a plane and work on them! You inspire me to consume as much of this knowledge as I can to not only help better myself as a pilot but, to also be the best instructor that I can for my future students. Keep up the great work!

I'm probably not alone in hating checkrides and oral exams. I think the worse part is being judged by someone you've likely never flown with before. Every pilot has slightly different ways they like to do things and you learn a bit from them all. But I always went into a checkride expecting to have to retest. Especially when you get that "OK" and they write something down when you answer something and it makes you second guess everything you think you know. Luckily, I only failed one checkride for my commercial and that was because I had been pretty much practicing some ground reference maneuvers incorrectly the whole time. I felt more frustrated after that than a failure because I felt like I wasted so much solo time practicing wrong and building bad technique without knowing it.

Hi Tracey! Thank you for your insight. You are right, it is easy to get nervous during checkrides!

That was me on the checkride, if I can just get through the oral but it wasn’t that bad though. I do agree that’s the wrong mindset!

@@MzeroAFlightTraining insider news on Jason’s uploads what a treat thank you!
Hi there, I don’t know how else to contact you but I have a question, with a planes throttle as I heard it controls air intake, when I’m at a high altitude and the air is thinner, does the throttle just control how much of that air I use in the engine, and also, based on how much air is available at a certain altitude, will I adjust the mixture to where I move the throttle or just based on my altitude and how much air is available, I would really appreciate if you fused this! Good job otherwise
@MzeroAFlightTraining

Hi Nic! Thanks for your question. This depends on aircraft type, but typically adjusting the throttle opens a valve that allows more air in to mix with a specific amount of fuel. You can adjust that fuel with the mixture. This is why as you get higher in altitude where air is thinner, you need to adjust the mixture so you don't run too rich. In other words, you would have too much fuel but not enough air. Hope this helps. If you need more clarification please feel free to reach out to us at support@mzeroa.com. Thanks and fly safe!
