@Impact Shooting Why don’t you see if you can replicate the three melons shots with a .50BMG(I’m not sure why it’s referred to as a BMG because BMG stands for Browning Machine Gun and these are bolt action weapons)??? If you believe that you would need larger melons, use full sized watermelons. I can understand that the sizes of the melons used in the movie the Accountant would be difficult to see at a distance of 1 mile, but why should that make a difference to the ability to hit them with a .50???? Try the mantra from the movie The Patriot with Mel Gibson, “Aim Small, Miss Small”! By the way, I don’t remember if you did a reaction to or breakdown of “Quigley Down Under”! If you haven’t, you really should! Allan Rickman plays a great bad guy to Tom Selleck’s good guy!

Fun math for the Gemini Man scene: I don't know what caliber he's shooting, but lets assume it's .308. At 1240m distance, the flight time would be about 2.6 seconds. At 238km/h, that train would've moved 172 meters between him pulling the trigger and bullet impact 2.6 seconds later. So, his windage adjustment to "lead" the train would have to be 138.62 MRAD... or 476 MOA. That couple turns on the turret ain't doing it. lol
@longshot7601

The distance could be calculated for the Accountant clip too. A mile in about a half second? 10,000 fps!?! That's railgun velocities. Not to mention that the recoil would put his shoulder into his pelvis.

And the math for the right timing to hit a head in this moving train! Length of the side silhouette of a human head or neck: about 20-30 cm TrainSpeed: 238 km/h 238 km/h = 66.1 m/s 0.3 m / 66.1 m/s = 0.0045 s So he had a time interval of about 4 thousands of a second to hit, IF he was aiming perfect at the right point.

This is a holdover tactic from I believe the old Camp Perry competitions before the use of optics. The military retained it because it was the way they'd always done it, but it comes from the era of aperture sights and tight, precise, almost tourniquet like use of slings. Today much of the same mechanics are accomplished via the use of shooting jackets.

If you use your support hand you lose that point of contact as well as your cheek weld, even if you muscle it.The butt pivots in the pocket of the shoulder so that comes back pretty naturally as you arm moves. It is also safer as that pull from the left arm could lead to a negligent discharge if your trigger finger slips.

the technical role is sometimes done by high power shooter utilizing the 1903 sling. You roll to the left to get a tight sling fit as you push the stock to your shoulder pocket with you right. Hard to do that push while laying prone. Once your left arm, sling, rifle, and right shoulder become "one" then you roll back to the right and build your position to get the natural point of aim and best position for your trigger contact etc. etc.

2:35 smoke does pop off of people when they are shot but not all the time. this is a product of environment, the germans in the scene are covered in dust and debries from being in combat in a city. with a big round like a 30-06 that jackson was using slapping them at a distance of 100m or less the shot kicks the dust off the soldier.

how you shoot is supposed to be determined by what your dominant eye is. Just like handedness, except eye dominance and handedness don't always coincide. For example, I'm complete right side dominant with everything except my eye, so I shoot long guns left handed and cant my head slightly when shooting handguns

@@louiscypher4186 - I've seen a bit of combat...a body 'smokes' from dislodged DUST from .30-caliber (or larger) projectiles impacting it. Shoot someone in the middle east, in combat, and it looks like you're dusting a throw rug...if you wish to proof this, take a rug from your house, pour a bottle of talcum powder on it, hang it on the clothes line and at-range, shoot it. Then, you can apologize for assuming things you have no experience with. WWII Europe was COVERED with gypsum, crushed stone, dust, dirt, etc. - so for a soldier to be 'covered in dust when shot' had a high likelihood of happening.

@@julian23561 Got this from the Das_Edelweiss comment (sorry for copy pasting pal) I think there’s justification for “smoke” coming out of bodies when being shot at. One is that those German soldiers have probably been fighting for days and the dried mud and the ashes from the ruins from buildings built up in them and so when they were shot the bully’s literally shakes off the dirt and ashes from their bodies. Now I’ve seen go pro combat videos in Syria where they’re heavily fighting a city and when someone is shot dust kicks off from their bodies or dust kicks around them. I think this is due to them fighting and living inside areas that have lots of dust and ashes falling on their clothes. The reason why I like Saving Private Ryan is because the way how the soldiers are being shot and killed it looks extremely real and they’re not doing any exaggerated backflips or anything like you’ll usually see in video games, tv shows, films, etc.

I think the reason why he was using his off hand to manipulate the bolt in the Saving Private Ryan clip is because he hand is right forearm wrapped in the sling for more accuracy. If I remember correctly in the behind the scenes clip, Barry Pepper talks about how he used his rifle and mentions the sling wrapped around his arm. He also stated they actually trained with former military personnel to get as close as they can get with this movie

6:20 You will hear loud bang or snap coming from the bullet itself as it breaks sound barrier and if the bullet comes near, you hear it same time as the bullet impacts.
@jeffreytackett3922

Not quite, no. The "bang or snap" happens at the moment the bullet breaks the sound barrier. It doesn't happen for as long as the bullet is above the sound barrier. That sound happens at the point the barrier is broken, or a bit past barrel clearance. The bullet doesn't carry the sound with it, or it would be effectively a nonstop crack for the entire flight time of the bullet.

For the saving private ryan clip, its a lefty shooting a right handed gun because thats all we made during that time period. Its much easier to use your dominant hand to pull the bolt back than you're support hand in that situation. He cannot pull the bolt back without moving his head out of the way, so he uses his support hand to push the stock of the gun into his body while his dominant hand pulls back the bolt. It makes more sense🤷🏻♂️

It's probably been mentioned a million times already, but in Saving Private Ryan, the rifle and scope changes to a completely and obviously different model at least once (M1903A4 with Lyman Alaskan to and M1903A1 with what looks like either a Unertl or a Lyman Super Targetspot, but with ahistorical fixed mounts (the scope used external adjustment in reality)). The sniper also says he's dialling windage as he adjusts the objective lens!

I would like to think that the truly educated shooter would not say any derogatory but instead properly ask questions in order to gain more knowledge. There is always something that can be learned if you approach a subject with an open mind. In my experience humility is the key and if you act as such there will always be someone to help you. I have been shooting for over 4 decades and I am self educated, I have learned so much from the older guys in the game. Today I am still learning but I find so much satisfaction in helping the novice shooter. Maybe you could produce some educational videos. Have a great day and thanks.

Operating the M1903A4 left handed as seen... a little weird but not unreasonable. The M1903 is actually a very handy rifle and nicely balanced. Leaving the support hand in place is really easier, especially in a downward shooting position like this, and breaking shooting position to operate the bolt with the left hand. The "smoke" would not be smoke but dust. Given conditions in the scene, some dust would puff off but yes the scene is quite excessive (though perhaps this is like the RPG smoke from Black Hawk Down, it informs the viewer). Top five sniper movie. Quigley Down Under. Yes, drying blood is sticky. But unless a whole lot of it got in the mag, I think you are right to call it out. The observation on of paper on steel is spot on. Spall from the impact would shred the paper, penetration or no.
