Evolve checks the condition at resolution as well. Yes it will _trigger_ three times, but by the time the stack gets to the original Master of Waves evolve trigger, Cloudfin Raptor will be too big to benefit from it.

Byron Mihailides Yes, for that purpose too... Making your opponent think that you are thinking about multiple plays you can choose, when you only have one possible play, or when you don't even have anything... In fact, there's lot of good reasons for doing that, and at beginning that's exactly why players do it! But after a while, with so much time playing and doing it, it became an habit that players keep doing unconsciously, no matter the situation, even when it's obviously not necessary... I think we can't argue with that! (Just like after a thoughtseize, when your opponent knows that the only 2 cards you have on hand are 2 lands, and you keep shuffling your hand...) What doesn't mean that it's a bad thing when you gain that habit! Even a player doing it unconsciously, he are taking advantage of all the reasons that made him start shuffling his hand for purpose in first place!

The Evolve trigger will only happen once from MoW coming on the field if a Raptor only had one counter on it. The Raptor is already a 1/2 if it had a counter, and with MoW coming on field, it will only trigger once, making it a 2/3, and no more triggers will happen from the elementals. If the Raptor had no counters on it prior to MoW, it Evolve trigger will only happen twice, once from MoW, and then from Elementals.

played mono white at my tourney tonight. first match I had was against a deck that was almost the exact same as these. Game 1 I got off too fast and made him scoop. game two he won after I got him down to 4 life. Game 3 it was his 2 master of the waves and 25 tokens and a thassa vs my 3 soldier tokens, 2 frontlines, Heliod, 2 precinct captains and potential mutavualts. I was 1 brave the elements away from a win because he was at 5. but man. that deck gets nasty fast.

Legendary permanents of the same name can be on the field at the same time if they are controlled by separate players If you would put a Legendary permanent on the field while there is another copy of the legendary permanent on your side of the field, you can choose which copy of the permanent gets to stay on the field

Without having read too many reports yet, I'd say that all three mono red decks (RDW, Big Red and Devotion) suffered from the fact that they were expected. I'm not diminishing the achievement of either player in the finals but mono-U was a strategy that very few people tested for. It had the element of surprise whereas everybody saw mono-R in several forms coming.
@santiagoacosta777
11 жыл бұрын
That's not how it works. You can take a sliver deck to a pro tour, and I guarantee you that they wouldn't expect that at all (slivers suck, after all). You'd be lucky if you won 1 or 2 out of the 10 constructed matches. But still, no one would expect your deck.

Not true that people didn't test for mono blue devotion. The pros knew it was going to be a thing, and lots of people were playing it, so of course anyone who was a teammate of someone playing it got lots of practice against it. It's just good. Card advantage usually equals win.

0:37:00 wouldn't Dagen be able to evolve cloudfin raptor three times? Play master of waves, put evolve on the stack then master, get token, trigger evolve twice since they are 2/1, then evolve from master to make the raptor a 3/4?
@gambitben6184

This decks won because the rest were playing red/green, and because nobody expected this kind of deck. All in all, it's not bad, it's quite powerful thanks to master of waves but the bad thing is that is terribly irregular. The surprise element saved it.
