Me too, I worked with horses when I was younger as a groom & riding instructor. I was aiming for my BSAI (that will give away my age 🤣) yet the people I worked for led me to believe they knew best. They clearly didn’t and some had worked for some of the best. I mean when I think back to how the people I worked for boxed a horse 😳 I guess you don’t know what you don’t know. They were kind to their horses but we could have been taught better. I agree what Steve does works.

The hard thing about teaching someone young is we think we already know everything. It'll pay for this very young girl to watch your video several times and absorb the knowledge you impart. She'll benefit greatly from it and will end up becoming a great trainer herself. Absolutely loved watching you and Dan on your bikes 😂. I grew up on a farm in Australia with brothers who loved and rode bikes. My youngest one still does and is heading of on a 5 day endurance ride in Far North Queensland in mid September. Thanks for another great video Steve! ❤🐴

This was a truly great video! I learn something new each time. Most important is be a parent (not dictator,) gaining attention, control the feet=control the horse, getting space (with the feet,) no unasked for forward motion, making our idea their idea, making things easy (or hard) depending, doing everything calmly with quality, lowering the head/relaxation, no hand feeding, rubbing not patting, the ears go first than the eyes than the feet, & so much more!. And YES! The slow motion clips are VERY helpful to see things otherwise missed.

We’re in Gainesville, FL ans the storm was supposed to go right through the middle of town. Terrifying if you have a horse! Of course, I won’t leave mine, so it’s always a nightmare when a hurricane is coming. I’ve been here 62 years and gone through some real whoppers and it never gets any easier. We were so lucky this time, the storm went around us. Just got rain and some wind. Lots of tree branches to clear up but everyone is safe. A lot of my friends who live in the surrounding areas lost power for days. 18 years ago 4 hurricanes came through here one right after another and we were without electricity for 5 weeks. We were so lucky this time! You hold your breath every year. A lot of people were not as fortunate as we were and I really feel for them. Thanks for the good wishes🥹. As usual, fantastic video! Loved going on the trip with you guys😊

Loke other viewers here i didnt know about the pressure halter. Thing is the fundamental message you give viewers is "pain is not a motivator" and with that "make it the horse's idea". Cooperation not force. This video is superb for teaching these ideas. Excellent job. And I i liked the bike outing and sightseeing bits as well. Great thanks.

A huge thank you to the owners again for sharing their horse dilemmas.... Had horses all my life and at 50 years old I've learnt so much more quality horsemanship after watching all your videos Even my perfectly behaved 30 year old home bred mare is benefiting from my new methods... She loves the no patting policy Just rubbing... And the head turning .... Really useful for worming and cleaning her old runny eyes ..... Thanks you guys...And I love all the videos...including food and holidays too....what fun...always cheers me up 😂 😘😘😘😘🤩 Oh Yes I stopped hand feeding years ago.. My mare had started scraping the floor with her hoof every time she was tied up asking for treats Even though I only gave them at end of ride and that's when it started but very quickly escalated to scraping as soon as I put her in the stable

The first pressure halter I was introduced was in 1979 / 1980 by two Arabian horse trainers. the" Dually" was patented by Monte Roberts ( whom I also met in the late 1990's in Reno Nevada) and now I see another adaptation of these pressure halters. But!!! What you have shown us Steve is the whole moving the feet and the flag timing. I know you have learned from others, and you have brought forth a truly consistent effectual path of working with these horses. I have maintained that the most troublesome globally is trailer / Lorey (Lori) issue. No Matter what trainer one "seeks" instruction - trailering is STILL a very big issue. All of your vids I have watched are so much proof of moving the feet and "space" issue and not making it a Personal Human emotional issue. I do appreciate all you show and am grateful to your Daughters' and wife for making your work exposed and transparent / honest and recordable! 💯💯💯💯💥💥💥

Hi Steve and Tanya (Charlotte and Dan). Not sure if you read up-to-date comments from old videos, but here goes anyway. Just for your info, I live in Vernon, British Columbia and stumbled upon your videos accidently; really enjoy them, even though my horse owning days were 40 years ago. I see now that I had no idea what I was doing and my horsemanship skills were below zero. In fact, I was so "clueless" I caused my mare to rear up and strike my forehead. Eventually, the swelling and black eyes receded--experience can indeed be the best teacher! Appreciate your soft way and even the "firming up" is NOT abusive or harsh, at least to my eyes. My grandma, Irene Hunter, trained racehorses in the '30's and '40's, my uncle was a jockey, my mom and aunt helped out at the track with various chores like cooling down after early morning practice. I do not think ground work was a priority as my mom said that one of the mares would drag her through the manure pile often. Thanks for explaining how the licks are not equal to hand feeding, which I have wondered about. Also enjoy seeing on the map where your travels take you. Tried to follow your exotic vacation, but could not find it. At any rate, many blessings to you all in far away Wales😊

Those dogs were so chilled with strangers being there too. What a cracking horse you went to help, or was it the owner? He sooner picked up the right messages. Perhaps the young girl could be your apprentice? She would have to listen more rather than talk over you.

Horses like quiet and kind and deliberate actions. Nothing fast or sporadic. They need clear and somewhat slow, kind direction. Once they understand you can speed up a bit. Owning a horse also quiets the owner down a bit when they are around the horse. You get to appreciate that calmness when you and rhe horse trust each ither. A horse is naturally calm añd deliberate when he is not afraid or worried.

She is still a very young girl, she has a long way to go, and perhaps little bit of humility would go a long way as well. Know your weaknesses and strive to correct them. It’s not all about what you have done or your strengths it’s about addressing and accepting your weaknesses and working on them so they then become your strengths, once they are your strengths you don’t need to shout from the rooftops about them, people will see it for themselves. Personally I wouldn’t send my horse for training with her as yet, she needs a little more experience, but she has taken the first steps to learn from the best, and I wish her all the best for the future . You never ever know everything and you never ever stop learning. Good luck.
