I love the bit at the end in the credits about how they’re legally required to say the bank of americas overdraft fees are only $10 now

This is exciting, Julio Torres is such an interesting and unique comedy talent. His weirdness+Tilda's is gold.

Hopefully many people will seek out this small film. After all I don't think it is receiving much promotion. Plus it is going up against Dune 2.

The way you guys were describing how well put together some of the scenes are makes me even more excited to see it. About the job offer and Torres' character refusing to take it, on the realist hand I get how that seems like a naive move, but on the idealist hand it reminds me of the many adults who give up on their dreams. Adulthood hits and they panic, "I need a real job" something stable, something they can settle into. Next thing they know they're in retirement; they finally have the time (and possibly money), but no longer the energy. To continue pursuing our dreams, even when it seems foolish, takes a lot of hope that things will eventually work out. It's a leap of faith. If I were this character, I think I'd be so hung up on Swinton's character because, subconsciously, she probably has what I need--the last thing holding me back. In the end, based on your guys' review, he sounds like the most well-rounded adult in the film.

So after listening to your guys' Spotify podcast (The Pelican Brief episode), your thoughts made me think a little more: I wonder if we're talking about the same thing from different perspectives. It's the mild disappointment and frustration of seeing people have opportunities offered to them in life and not take them; the disappointment is because we support their success. Him taking the job could also be a leap of faith--or rather a leap of commitment, understanding that it'll help him get to where he wants. Giving up on his dreams depends on him. It transforms the realist/idealist dichotomy into an achievable path. I guess the most important thing is to have a goal and appreciate the journey required to get there. From the perspective of my original comment, I grew up around people who, even when they do gain the money and time, they still don't pursue their dreams, talents, ideas--despite the technology and resources available today. Some of it is fear of putting themselves out there. That's actually one of my current "side-missions". (However, there's also the possibility that maybe people don't want to pursue these things. Maybe their goals changed.) We may not strike it big, but who knows how sharing talents and ideas might inspire someone else, how it will connect us with others, the journey it'll take us on.

Just saw this - it’s so sweet, funny, odd and current. Tilda killed me (I have met many Elizabeths in my life) but at the end of the day I was so endeared to their odd couple friendship. Julio is so good at observing the hurdles of life and presenting them in such as somehow lighthearted/happy. But never naive.

Imagine if Tilda, Chastain, Siggy, Anne Hathaway, Anya Taylor-Joy, J. Moore, & Björk were cast in an a24 flick together? Worlds would collide!! But i digress, the Mother's Instinct trailer looks intense, btw. Thanks for the review. I can't wait to see this. Love Rza

The leads seem well cast, if you agreed on the high score. Also, that 'eggy' theme, seem relevant to the narrative, interesting! The character's personalities could be 'toys that are not fun' - but satisfying perhaps!

I totally get Alejandro and his relationship with his mom. His mom coddled him, gifted him everything he wanted, protected him from the world, but this was stifling because it didn't allow Alejandro to blossom through trial and error which is how we discover ourselves. We don't discover ourselves in comfort and complacency, or only coasting in this incubated bubble. That's not human. So, Alejandro had to do things the hard way in order to course correct the amount of coddling his mother gave him. He needed to figure out things on his own and prove to himself that he could exist in the real world, not just the world his mother created for him. This is a really great film.

I just saw the movie an hour before typing this (and ultimately watching the review). Loved it! Do you think this would be an awards contender? Also love your recap/review format. I’m able to pick up on parts that flew over my head or just wasn’t able to hear well (the sound on the theatre I went to was quiet for me). Looking forward to your future videos!

Great movie! Great message. Nothing gets done unless you are constantly on it and bitch about it. As someone pushed around a lot in life, you are your only advocate. And the Bank of America scene was hilarious

And just being an autistic person my whole life, I’m usually treated like shit so I pre-emptively stand up for myself. Otherwise, you get walked on and die. I think she became that way as a survival mechanism. Obviously, she went too far at points, but I think it’s her extreme anxiety and distrust of the world.
