@@eiyrie2990 Only if the top is down and you're driving fast (over 55 mph). I only drive with the top down in the city where the speed limit is usually 40mph or less, so it isn't a problem for my use case. The only major complaint is that visibility through the back window while the top is down is limited, so backing out of a busy parking lot may be a problem.

@@eiyrie2990 Hi, I have owned several convertibles and for me the road noise has never been an issue. The older covertibles ( I learned to drive on a 1967 Chevy Impalla convertible) may have been a bit noisier due to air moving over the vinyl tops and less interior insulation, but more modern convertibles drive and sound pretty much like a normal car. If you are thinking of getting a convertible don't let the noise argument dissway you from making the purchase. If it is a used convertible just make sure it has been well maintained as you would any other car. The car I own now, a 2007 Toyota Solara, looks exactly like the car in this video. We purchased it in 2011 with 25k miles and it now has 165k miles and we keep it well maintained and follow the manufactureres maintenance recommendations. My wife and I love it! Good luck!!

I recently bought a 2007 Solara. Here is additional 2 cents from me if u buy one of those. Check the water leaks from the gutter of the roof top. The gutter of the roof is hidden under the black metal cover at the top of the trunk, but you will see the gap. Close the roof and hose lots of water at the back of the roof. Water goes into that gap, then it will come out from the sides of the car. If there is a hole or tear with the gutter, you will see a lot of water inside the trunk. Mine was this case, and it was a huge pain for me to fix those huge holes. Holes are so common at the both side of the corner of the back.

Hi Greg, I have a 2007 Toyota Solar (white w/tan top, tan leather interior) which I purchase in February 2011 with 25k miles and it still is performing excellent with a 165k miles on it. I have owned many cars in my life and several covertibles, but this is without a doubt my favorite car that I have ever owned. My wife and I both love driving this car and we do our very best to keep it well maintained and follow the manufacturers maintenance schedule. I replaced the top and the drain gutter myself a few years ago and overall the car still looks beautiful. The interior is starting to show its age from normal everyday use, but that is to be expected. My wife and I will periodically speak about getting a newer car ( before this car I would typically get a newer car every five years or so) but we both love driving this car so much it would break our hearts to get rid of it as it still looks and drives great. Unless Toyota starts making a convertable again we have no plans on trading it in anytime in the foreseeable future. Thanks for the video!

Info came in handy with the purchase of an 08 fully optioned SLE. One owner older couple, garaged and heavily serviced. For a 14 year old car it looks barely a couple years worn. Everything works no rust all the bits and they even kept the window sticker. Do wish it had a manual though I know the convertible didn’t offer it. Still so fun to drive and a suitable daily for all my stuff my truck doesn’t need to do. 125k miles and they had the timing belt done. Only thing I updated was the head unit and added a backup camera.

Ditto on the one I bought recently. I can't completely verify entire maintenance but clearly it was a well-maintained car that runs as smooth as can be. I also added an upgraded head unit and camera which is really the only thing these cars need to bring up to a more modern spec. Going into the purchase I planned on keeping the car for just a couple of years but a few months in I can see keeping the car until it dies lol. For the guy who posted the video, the mid-cycle refresh came in 2007 but otherwise I'd say everything about the video is spot on.

I got one a couple years ago and also did a head unit and back up camera upgrade. It really is the one major thing this car is missing and the factory integrated feel is great. Unless this car really starts gaining in value to the point of making some good money, I don't see any reason to get rid of it and will keep it as another car if for whatever reason I need to get something more modern. One thing not really covered was the dash cracking issue. These cars are notorious for developing cracks and really bad. Any prospective buyer would see it but even on a good car it's something to keep in mind as a potential issue down the road.

I’m gonna try some aftermarket seat cushions first as I can always turn music up for the noise. One thing I will say is switching to ride flat tires added some noise. I’m more concerned with the seat comfort . I do like the ergonomics. I’ll probably regret selling ! All the plastic outer trim pieces around the window and on the back of the convertible top are either cracking or peeling off and fading. All the rubber moldings around windows have gone to shit as well. Engine bolts are rusty that's no big deal. Some smaller rubber hoses became brittle. I am banging my head on trying to find what these parts are called so I can order replacements for them. Biggest issue is the convertible top which leaks now costs like 3 grand or something to fix. They made the engine so well that the body of the car will deteriorate before the engine ever does.

I've owned several Solaras....coupes and ragtops. Great cars. I thought the Gen 1 was beautiful. The 2nd gen is weird looking IMO, but is a better car from a technical point of view. Get the V6. Performs MUCH better and gets practically the same mileage. The 4 also has occasional issues, like oil consumption. On the 2nd Gen, some of the LCD dash gauges are almost impossible to see in daylight...an aggravation. I thought that the 2nd Gen 5 speed automatic was rather lazy in its shifting, albeit very reliable. My gen 1 ragtop roof leaked around the windows in the rain and was sloppy to latch closed. My Gen 2 ragtop was better in that regard. My gen 1 V6 did develop valve cover gasket leak at about 150k miles. Easily repaired. I'd buy another ragtop Gen 2...but I gotta say...the "blob" styling just never grew on me, I'll likely buy a Mustang GT instead next time.

Regular oil generally last 5000 miles. Synthetic oil 10,000 miles at most.

@@djkenny1202 I don't consider the oil, only the mileage/time. I consider synthetic to just be and added bonus of protection.

@@Leonardokite today’s oil has so many additives. Time means very little. Since I only Drive 3000 mikes a years, I change it about every 1.3 years, which is very soon. About 4k miles over a year. I am sure even every nearly 2 yrs I would be Okay.

Bought an SEL Recently. 2008, 92k, one owner, dealer serviced, garaged. Hit in rear over a decade ago but you would not know it. Nice car. Paid 10k and it was a fair deal Handles better then I thought it would. Not a sports car but sporty. My mechanic was surprised at the great condition of the car. Satisfied so far.

Thank you very much for your comment. Actually this car was great I drove this 2013-2016 in NY Eastchester. A bit understeer so it was easy to drive. I recommend you to buy if you want to drive valuable convertible car in this world.

Google Toyota Prius inverter settlement. Google 3rd gen Prius head gasket issues. My 2013 Prius V had both fail. In fact, all Prius V under the settlement. Not my idea of reliability.

I would be interested in the there's problems with the rubber insulation at the very back of the convertible top well-watered my great sin from the defective seals and ruins the interior is no replacement for that they don't make that part anymore so I'd like to convertible but I guess I'll stick with the coop SLE with the sunroof I'm still looking for one you have to be so careful these these cars have to have that oil changed every 3,000 mi or less then you could see one with 49,000 miles and find out that it burns two quarts of oil because they didn't do any oil I guess if you do a compression test on a cylinder you could probably find out if the rings are bad that's what I plan on having John before I buy

They ruined the look with the second gen Solara : she looked like a big turtle compared to the first gen which was a lot slicker.

In my 2005, he internal rain guttering system was made of cloth and it degraded to the point that it would allow water to leak behind the back seat/floor and the trunk, filling up the spare tire well. Removing the rubber plugs under the back seats and in the bottom of the spare tire well helped the water drain, but the back seats still become somewhat soggy in heavy rain.

I've been researching Toyota Solaras and the convertibles are plentiful. It's the coupes that are few and far between. I know that Toyota built a few of the first geniration (1999-2003) Solaras with the 3.0 L v6 engines and 5 -speed manual transmissions. I would love to find one of those cars in an unmolested condition. But I'm most likely going to have to settle for one of the second geniration (2004-2008) cars with an automatic trans. Those with the SLE trim package are really nice! But they all have those "sun-moon roofs". I worked with a man who restored cars for about 3 years. We restored a lot of English roadsters "MGBs TR6s and the occasional Jaguar. We had some meny of our customers bring their cars in with slashed roofs, and upholstery.. We worked on cars with those sun-moon roofs and T-Tops too, and we had the hardest time keeping those things from leakng..

Think you will have to go to Japan for the five speed. I sold Toyotas back then for Sandy Springs Toyota and we were told they weren't going to be available.
