I would absolutely love to see this scene again, but with David as Roberts character and vice versa.

That is the most well-placed "oh, will you shut the fuck up" in the history of time.

i was trying to find that JUST for the 'oh will you shut the FUCK up', and it was right at the end, so, totally worth it.

Dammit, I want to know what he thought Pater would have made of Blade Runner. I like hearing Mitchell talk.

@theignoredgender .. One big problem, especially in America, is that when people ask about your job they're often mostly interested in assessing your socio-economic status ... which makes them 'something for which I know no polite name' (well, maybe 'mercenary' is polite enough). I generally recommend topics of the news and civic reform ... it reflects 'core values' and potentially offers the chance they'll pitch-in with you on a good cause if they're 'the right sort'.

The funniest thing about this to me is that he is talking to people about the fact that he wants to talk but doesn't know what to talk about.

Damn, I wanna meet this guy and give him a high five. I was in a situation EXACTLY like this, as I'm sure many people are. Wish I was witty enough to have had delivered lines that pwn like these do.

I think you guys might be missing the point. I think this is about how arrogant and self-absorbed shyness can make you. We are not supposed to like this character. He is not thinking of others at all but is self-obsessed. Listen to the petulant tone he uses when he says "I haven't said anything for 15 minutes" btw I say this as a chronically shy person!

He is perfectly right, the other people are absolute idiots just giving vent to their own vanity to talk about nothingness. People should sometimes just be able to be together without talking, if they haven't anything interesting to say. Small talk is just pointless

I'm surprised more people haven't yelled that at david mitchell, considering the number of rants he's gone on.

I totally sympathise with this guy. Whenever I'm in a group of people, I'm usually the one with no one to talk to, listen in on the other conversations and desperately trying to think of something useful to contribute. Hats off to Mitchell and Webb for making a humorous sketch about a very real and misunderstood social deficiency.

how do u deal with these situations? EASY-say someing completely random and keep doing this till someone finds what u say interesting and run with it, or better yet-find whateva anyone is saying and make it ALL ABOUT YOU..like mitchle talking about a forest, you could be like 'speaking of forests...i think my backyard is turning into one!' :^p

+Carlos Cañas Well, i personally don't have a problem but i struggle talking at times because i don't have many hobbies or general interests. If your struggling to talk about things in common, try and talk about something all humans do if you get my drift. Work, food travel etc. Try to get involved in conversation. Also what helped me a lot was checking the top articles on the news, Im from the UK so i use the BBC news site and it has a sort of top 10 things in the news each day and that sometimes gets a conversation started! Good luck pal
