That tip about using regular hand held screwdriver first and then drill to prevent striping is helpful, wish I knew that 5 years ago. Thanks for sharing.

Another great tutorial. Thank you for sharing. I’m Florida bound this spring, my kids and I are tired of the cold. Way past time to come back home. My kids were born in Central Florida.

Good day of work on a beautiful Florida day. I was starting to think, and my friends and kids were telling me, that I must be crazy to find it relaxing taking apart motors. I've only done a few. Looking forward to finding more to scrap. I am not crazy! Phew! lol :+D

If you put the oscillating fan motor in a vice vertically, you can tare right through the copper down the face of the laminant(steel) with a hack saw in about 15 seconds. The other side just pops right out. You can completely remove all the copper from the steel in about 30 seconds. Your way is good too.

In Canada, we have plastic recycling as well so all. It is voluntary, there is no payment involved but it gets picked up with the weekly recycling and it keeps it out of the landfill.

People must throw those box fans out because they get dirty......ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm you can clean the dang things ....it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how to take the grills off and just clean them :D I have a fan that I have had for 12 yrs and it works as good today then it did the day I bought it.....BECAUSE !!!!!!!!! I kept it clean........Just sayin ! :D

There is a heat sensor burried in the coils. It acts like a fuse if the fan gets too hot. If you don't clean your fan out, the dust will build up and the fan will over heat and blow the sensor. The bearings will clog and slow the fan down and that will cause the sensor to blow also. A lot of people throw them out because of the bearings ceasing or slowing the fan down. All caused by not cleaning them out.
