Toll mit großem Orchester zu diesem Klassiker, der bestimmt noch nach mehr als 100 Jahren nicht in Vergessenheit geraten wird, weil wirklich gute Musik zeitlos sein wird ! Die großartigen Komponisten aus vergangenen Jahrhunderten hat man Gott sei Dank auch nicht vergessen.

This song was used to signify closing time every night at the bar in a college town I worked at fifty years ago. Being a slow dance song it was not only last call at the bar but also last call for the guys to either get their new found loves phone numbers or perhaps be invited home. Memories do turn to black and white but such songs bring it all back.

In the summer I drive forklift in the fields moving bins for people the bends for the pictures. I had my 10 transistor radio FM kfrc. The best ear nose of the saddest. I believe they were only one hit wonders in the US. I think in Europe they had a couple. But they gave concerts for the rest of their lives so I don’t think that was such a bad deal.

Love this every time I hear it. “as the Miller told his tale” I’m guessing this refers to one of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. The Miller’s Tale, circa 1388, is an English sexual satire of the class structure of Medieval society, a commentary on the human condition and an explicit criticism of the church. I was told NOT to read it when I was in High School… so I did😂 JLH

To hear Keith Reid tell it, when he wrote this song he was drunk and high, many of the lyrics were written with the idea of maintaining flow and didn’t refer to anything in particular. Each person can put their own interpretations on the meaning as any specific storyline is ambiguous or vague at best.

Listened to this for years, born in '67, and I still have no idea what this song is about, and Im not sure I care. I like discovering lyrics and meaning gradually over the years, as it always remains fresh. The organ pulls melancholy strings in me, the lyrical melody drones on, and the punch of "And so it WAS that later..." is magical. I'll never tire of this great song and arrangement. RIP Gary🙏
