So many possibilities for the smudge tool on artstudio. Maybe you should consider learning how to use it. Its an excelent painting tool.

While I do plan on buying artstudio Pro for comparison purposes in the future, I do like what procreate does. I like that procreate simplifies the interface and gets out of my way. I switched to procreate because it was expensive and took up a lot of space to keep buying sketchbooks. I was just looking for an easy low barrier-to-entry method to continue sketching while on the go. Procreate gives me a direct entry to draw and paint without a bunch of tools getting in the way. Because I have a traditional art background, I didn't learn with these tools so I tend to draw and do things manually as if I work drawing with real life media. That's why procreate is great because it is for drawing. I see what art studio is doing, it's valid and I like the extra options. I too am a Photoshop user as I also am a graphic designer, but I go to photoshop for Photoshop options. I might update this after I've used artstudio Pro, but I could see myself using both programs for two very different reasons. I think the programs aren't necessarily trying to do the same thing.

I love them both for different reasons. Artstudio Pro has more features, and the brush engine is more natural. However Procreate in general feels more snappy overall, the windows, the options, the drawing just feels more polished. ASP can sometimes take some time to open the brushes menu for instance. Also reorganizing brushes is pretty tedious in ASP, as you have to do it one at a time. Procreate is just more polished in general, which is why i sometimes prefer it. On the other hand the layers options in procreate are rather primitive. It only recently started supporting clipping masks, and the way these work is much more limited than in ASP. Also adjustment layers are sadly missing in Procreate, so doing things like color corrections has to be done on a per layer basis, which is far from optimal. I guess it is a workflow preference. Procreate feels more like a very advanced "sketch book", easy to pick up and fast, but in some respects limited. ASP feels more like photoshop, less intuitive and sometimes a bit sluggish, but with many powerful tools, which really help power users. I recommend them both highly!

I actually don't agree with the design being better in Artstudio. Yeah, it has more functionality like gradients and nondestructive adjustment layers ( there are workarounds for this in Procreate btw), but to me, it just lacks in UI design. Artstudio is copying Photoshop and it really does a great job at that (even better than Adobe themselves right now xD), but PS wasn't designed with an Ipad in mind, while Procreate was. Don't get me wrong, I think Arstudio is a really great app just because of all the features it provides and I wish Procreate had some of these features like using clipping masks on groups or just masking groups, gradient mapping, some extra keyboard shortcuts and nondestructive adjustment layers. For me, it's a really tough decision. I really love the way Procreate works and their UI design and gestures (even though I used PS for years), but it just needs a few more features, while Arstudio really should work on there UI design and gestures.

there's something special about the quality of procreate's brush engine. It's the difference between a fine point sable brush and a set of synthetic brushes. You can do great work with the synthetic brushes, but they can't match the quality of fine sable.

I use the smudge tool A LOT! I prefer ProCreate for its minimal UI that is less distracting, and lets you focus on just the painting. It’s less technical. It think this video is just competition trying to weigh the one over the other on purpose.

Hello there! This is a duel, so we have to compare them. You prefer a UI that is minimal, we on the contrary think that the UI of Procreate lacks a lot of useful tools. For example, the gradients maps, Art Studio pro has twice as much filters than Procreate, it has the stamp tool, the text tool and so on. Art studio pro is way more complete than Procreate, specially for us Photoshop users.

Diego lucky Clan the developer behind Art Studio has more than one person working on it. It also has an art director which suggest there are more people there, and in his vlog he says he has been working for the lucky clan team for a while and has been promoted to the art director position. Procreate is done by a team, but a small one in Hobart.

We actually started to draw with Procreate and someone in our Ipad Pro Video recommended Artstudio Pro. After using both apps for a couple of months it was clear which app was best. We listed all the advantages of each app in the video, and each app has cons and pros. In conclusion Artstudio Pro feels more complete, however Procreate is way more popular as it was the first art app for this device.

@@CyanOrangeStudio artstudio doesnt even have line starightener like when you draw a arch and keep holding your pen down to smooth out the line, that to me alone is a no go, i mean who wants to have to draw the same line 100 times, and have to use the eraser to make it look straight, the program should make the line straight for you

@@GoTips Doing straight lines and so depends on your approach using the App. We mostly paint and use smudges and traditional painting feeling to create art, that's why we don't even consider those tools. I vote for Artstudio, Reason? Because obviously the main problem is the layers......TwT When you go to the layers on procreate, then add some, it looks nothing. But then when you draw, it limits the layer amount to 7 layers only, once you reached 7 layers and one of them are drawned, it say that Maximum limit of 7 layers reached...

Terrible video. You’re so photoshop biased that you totally miss the intuitiveness of procreate. For example who says the smudge tool should be in the side bar and not on top? Just because photoshop does something that doesn’t mean others can’t do it differently. As Art Studio being the closest to photoshop on the ipad, I guess you never heard of Affinity Photo? Was released long before art studio and arguably a lot closer to photoshop. You must be really disappointed with art studio pro now since they changed the ui away from photoshop closer to procreate, moving all the tools to where they shouldn’t be.

Design is not about options. It’s about functionality and beauty. The UI of art studio, sucks. Old and grey. Really old. And the stability is the number one thing a professional illustrator looks for. You can’t say your client:”my app just crash”. You’ve got to deliver. And in procreate you know what you can and what you can not. Let’s move and please stop comparing every app with photoshop...that was not created for drawing!
