This just happened to me yesterday. I was sure I would go into true labor soon especially because I took a table spoon of castor oil that day. I had contractions all day but noticed that they were getting consistent and more intense around 1pm. I then started timing them, they were on average coming 10 mins apart for 40 seconds. I was expecting to go to the hospital at some point that night or the next morning especially cause this is my second baby. I took a shower, cleaned my room, ate a tuna sandwich with lots of veggies, told my husband to pack his bag cause im definitely in labor. I even went to the grocery store to get some fruit and dates since my doctor would actually allow me to eat while I labored at the hospital. When I was done with all my pre hospital errands I just hung out in my room and ended up falling asleep at 11pm. It’s now the next morning and they definitely have died off. I feel some slight ones but nothing like yesterday. Luckily I have my doctors appointment today. I’m 40+4 so I will be getting a sonogram and they will be checking my cervix. I did notice tho that they were more intense when I was upright and walking around so I will try staying upright and moving around more today. I’m so glad I didn’t go to the hospital tho because I’m sure there’s a possibility they would have just admitted me and then try to speed things up with Pitocin. That happened to me last time as I was unaware that contractions without dilation can be normal and I could have just waited it out, so I was more cautious of going to the hospital to soon this time around.

Hi there 😊, thanks a lot for sharing this with us! 😊 Yes, so, if you got that kind of contractions, you can normally intensify them with nipple stimulation AND by keeping upright (as you know yourself now). Because when you remain upright, you use gravity to your advantage. Also, you did the right thing! 👍 Don't rush to the hospital! What happened to you last time is exactly what we explain in one of our recent videos: kzitem.info/news/bejne/o4CPyWewo2eZnqA So, great job! 👍 Don't worry! It seems that your body is ready to go into labor. We are sure and hope that you will soon be able to meet baby number 2! We wish you ALL THE BEST for the upcoming birth, for you and your baby!! ❤️

so just to finish the story, for anyone curious, the day after this contractions started back up around 11pm. They were more intense than the day before and kept me up completely. They kept going and getting closer and closer. I personally have a hard time telling when the intensity increases up until the last minute but I can tell you the whole time I had to stop and breath through them. I waited till my gut told me to go to the hospital. Which was @ 12pm the next day. When I got to the hospital I was 6 cm dilated and had him 2 hours later. I was so shocked relived and grateful that he came so fast, I was able to go completely natural because of it. I went without an epidural on my first baby but at some point throughout my labor they started a Pitocin drip and I will say that natural contractions and Pitocin contraction’s definitely felt different for me. I couldn’t believe how bearable the contractions were compared to last time, I thought I had so much more time to go I ended up asking for an epidural just cause I wanted to sleep. As soon as the anesthesiologist was ready to administer it he started crowning. I was able to walk and use the bathroom right after. Here in America and epidural is so standard the staff is always so shocked to see you walk to the postpartum room.

This is the most comprehensive video on prodromal labor I have seen. Thank you! I experienced prodromal labor a few times now, once around 34 weeks and again at 36. Both times I was scared because of it being too early and tried a warm bath. That helped me to relax and the contractions started to go away. I think it was stress-induced. I tend to overwork myself and not do good things like drinking enough water when focused on work, so that was likely the cause. Still waiting for baby to come-39 weeks with some cervical changes but no true contractions.

Hi there 😊, thanks a lot for sharing this with us!! 😊 Stress and dehydration could have certainly been the cause! But just that you know: when you experience prodromal labor that early, like around week 34-36, they could have also been your body's attempt to help your baby engage in the pelvis. So maybe, you observed that baby dropped after you had experienced those contractions back then? By the way: please don't worry too much: at week 39, it's all about cervical changes. Women don't necessarily experience contractions at this point. They WILL come once your body is ready for it! 😊 In the meantime, we wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

I gave birth a week ago and first time I hear about prodromal labour, which sounds like what I had. I suppose I was in this stage for about 20 hours, with irregular 5-7 mins contractions, but no dilation so I was sent home then few hours later decreased to 3-5 mins and I chose to stay in the hospital at 7PM and dilation started around 4AM and gave birth at 9AM. The pain after 7PM was already quite intense even though they said I am still in passive labour and they kept saying it's gonna get a lot worse, which somewhat did, but I can say these are already quite painful.

Hi there 😊, thanks a lot for sharing this with us! 😊 It indeed sounds like you suffered from prodromal labor. Luckily, you DID transition into true labor - although of course, it is no fun to "suffer" from prodromal labor for 20 hours... On the other hand, when your dilation started, it must have gone very fast given the fact that you dilated AND delivered your baby within 5 hours... By the way: CONGRATULATIONS on your baby from the 2 of us!!! 🥳🥳🥳 We hope you both are recovering well! We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

@@thetruth.is.out.there89 Hi there! 😘 Thanks a lot for sharing this with us! We are very sorry to hear that you had such a hard labor! 🙁 Please note that - what you experienced - may not necessarily be prodromal labor. It sounds like you were in true labor, but your baby wasn't in a good position. In such cases, you may not dilate either, although you are in true labor. And then only once your baby has found a better position for labor, your dilation can continue... But eventually, it is completely irrelevant what it was. 😊 The most important thing is that you and your baby are doing well now! We hope you do! 😘 We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤

Hi there 😘, we know this is SO frustrating! ☹️ However, please keep in mind that those contractions are not necessarily "useless" (even though you are not dilating). Hi there 😘, normally, it's all about the progress. Have your contractions more or less been unchanged in terms of frequency and intensity over the past 4 days? Or are they actually getting stronger and come in closer intervals? If there is progress, it is NORMALLY a sign that you are in true labor. Hi there 😘, it all depends on your cervix! Unfortunately, when they induce you too early, labor progress can be very slow. And that's from someone who has tried many things to help women with prodromal labor. I am 41 +3 and have had prodromal labor 4 times now. During these hours of contractions they have been 3 minutes apart and about 80 seconds long. This has lasted up to 12 hours. They are painful and have grown in intensity, but they fizzle out into nothing. My cervix is dilating slowly. It was 5cm yesterday. This is all very different from my other two pregnancies. I will have an ultrasound today to make sure there isn't a problem with baby causing this. I'm commenting because of course there is always an outlet that does not fit the norm. I've tried so many things to help labor begin and it has not.

@@CareAboutLittleOnes Hi! Baby has been head down for a long time now and didn't seem to get any further down after this, except for possibly intermittedly before coming straight back up again. However, I did have what looked like my mucus plug come out 3 days later, though it was a completely clear/pale yellow string (my midwives weren't concerned and thought it could have just been discharge) and i'm still pregnant now (38w4d) with no serious signs of labor coming anytime soon.

@@CareAboutLittleOnes I'm also unsure if this changed my dilation or effacement as i'm in New Zealand and we don't do any internal examinations for these things until labour has actually begun, only an external check of babies positioning was done after this, which confirmed that baby was still not engaged. It was around this time that I started feeling lower abdominal/period like pains though, so my theory is that I may have started to dilate during this time.
@CareAboutLittleOnes
Жыл бұрын
@@emmajacquet5178 Yes, OR your baby DID engage after that period of contractions... We say that because it is not uncommon for baby to engage after a period of contractions that stop after a while. In general, we would not worry too much though. We know that many women expect to feel or see signs of labor once they are 38 weeks pregnant. However, the reality is that not every woman does. First of all, some babies only engage very late (some hours before labor and some even AFTER labor has started). Second, dilation-wise, you don't need to worry either. As soon as labor starts, your contractions will take care of your dilation. So, please don't worry too much! Try to relax! Your body knows exactly what it is doing if you give it the time! 😊
