I love Ed's story behind this song and how it's the first single released for the new album. He said that when he realized Great Britain would be opening back up from their lockdowns in June and his single would be released at that time, he had already planned a different more mellow song for his first release but he decided to write something more upbeat that people could dance to for the first single because it would be more fitting for the people going out to clubs and celebrating not being in lockdown anymore. He also said the song represent the life he lived before his daughter came along, he said that it's about all the bad habits he had where when he would say to himself "i'm just going out for a pint of two" it would end up with him staying out until 3 or 4 in the morning, drinking in excess and he knew he needed to change all that before his daughter was born.

I've always been thinking, whatever happens in music scene, Ed Sheeran just does his thing, he doesn't care about the trends, he creates them. I'm not sure about it this time. Too much of everything that's hot right now, music wise, picture-wise. I do love it, don't get me wrong. But I just don't think he's spearheading anything with this song. Maybe it's a good thing. And maybe it's a "deception maneuver" and his album will turn out a total game changer. Great reaction, as always. Thank you!

@pcrassen4975
3 жыл бұрын
@@addygrace5590 Yes. Also people are acting like one single that he made is suddenly changing *everything* about himself and says they're missing the "old Ed" like chill folks. It's ONE song. He literally dropped Afterglow a few months ago as well as Waiting Room, both are in a classic Ed Sheeran style, not to mention he performs Bad Habits with the loop setup in an accoustic version live too, and he himself said that the coming album IS in Ed style even including a kinda lullaby like song. If he made the entire album in this style I'd get people's apprehension but it's literally one song lmao. He's an artist and still human. Just cuz he has a style down plat doesn't mean he shouldn't get to experiment and change things up every once in a while. He doesn't really owe his music to anyone afterall. Plus like which old Ed are they talking about? Slow emotional ballads Ed, or rapping Ed? Cuz both of those are very distinct type of songs he has done and he even had to go as far as to call out a few people in some songs. "I wanna try new things, they just want me to sing Because nobody thinks I write rhymes " in Take Me Back to London "I never was a sick kid, always dismissed quick Stick to singing stop rappin' like it's christmas" in Remember The Name etc. Like c'mon. People don't have to like it of course but that doesn't mean that he should stick to one type of music either lol.
