Does the curved grip make thrusts feasible without a hand guard?

Theoretical, curved grips are added to swords to better align the tip with the wrist. Hand guards are irrelevant. Though most Filipino weapons have curved grips for ergonomical reasons. FMA tends to practice with slashes than thrusts. . .
