Informative, and straight to the point. Perfect video! Thanks! BTW because of your straightforward comparison, i will be purchasing the Luminess ladder tire carrier.

Great video and precise info. I have to get some measurements on the aluminess to see if my vwd inset awning windows clear. But the top rung of the ladder is also a paramount feature in my decision to go with the aluminess. Although the rover vans looks so much nicer.

Both are great options! The step profile is nice on the Aluminess carrier/ladder.

Great comparison. I’m 90% sure I’m getting the Rover Vans setup because I just like the looks. I would buy the Aluminess version if I want one without the ladder. I’m going to get them on both doors but for cargo boxes and not a spare tire. But undecided as VWD now has rear windows that have a small opening section and these get in the way. Decision decisions……….building a camper van is a lot of decisions

I just saw some of those windows too. I might have to experiment. I like the slider more than the awning though.

@@AVCRIG I have the AMA bunk sliders and wish I had gone just a little bigger. Rear opening windows would be nice but I do not know if I really want to remove the factory glass to put them in. I should just get the rear door racks I want.

@@brlowe1 I saw VWD has back door sliders on sale. Not sure if they are being phased out, but I like the idea more than awnings.

For the High Roof Ford Van The Aluminess on the left is the Winner. Just need the tire lower, just above the bumper and a cable lock.

I really appreciate your videos, I'm on the verge of submitting an order for a Transit. Could you mention, going forward, if any accessories / builds you cover would negatively impact the myriad of options increasingly available that use sensors - blind spot assist, reverse sensing, side sensing, cameras, etc....? Thanks!

From my experience bike racks cause the most trouble with rear sensors. I don’t do much with front bumpers, but most I’ve seen have options for front sensors. Everything else works just fine.

So what are the options for locking on the spare so they won’t “roll” away?

@@turnpike420 I'm using a coated cable with a padlock. I hide the padlock behind the tire so it's not as noticeable.

@@terryrosenthal3692 bolt cutter would take easy care of that, but to make a point, a lock is better than no lock when a thief is deciding on grab and go… seems like a logical choice for fitting on the rack and tire too.

I haven’t tried but I feel like a U lock would do it. Maybe drilling the center all tread would be cleaner.

I have a high roof and I have a rovervan ladder tire combo. The rover van ladder is very inconvenient when descending from above. I regret not buying alumines. I bought a rover van because I had to wait a month, but there is a difference in many ways. What's more, the rovervan's customer service is hell. If you get a rover van you can run into problems at any time and have a hard time dealing with them. I have AVCRIG roof racks and they solve all my problems quickly and quickly. thanks for the video.

Can you recommend the lock that would go on the Rover set up.

I’d use a U lock from bikes. They are typically coated in heavy rubber and are pretty secure. Alternatively you could drill the all thread and put a small lock through it.

What is the largest size spare tire that will fit under the van?

It depends if extended van vs long. The extended have much more room for larger tires.
