Product Review HO Scale Athearn Covered Hoppers SP & MCDX - How Accurate Are These Model Trains?
Southern Pacific’s H-70-12 class covered hoppers were built by Pullman Standard in 1953 and 54. They were originally delivered to Southern Pacific subsidiary Texas & New Orleans.
In 1961 the cars were renumbered and given SP reporting marks.
In this review, Dan reviews two of these cars. The second car has MCDX reporting marks and is lettered for Grupo Cementos Mexicanos.
As usual, Dan evaluates these model trains based on their packaging, prototype accuracy, paint & detail, and how well they operate and conform to applicable standards.
In the RIP Track section, Dan shows how to fix any minor issues these cars may have.
If you're a fan of SP, Mexican Trains, covered hoppers, or freight cars in general, then be sure to check out this unboxing and review!
