High-cube boxcars like this are often used to carry auto parts. This HO scale boxcar from Tangent Scale Models is loaded with detail!
The model represents an 86' car built by Greenville. These were used by a variety of railroads. The car in this review is painted in Conrail's 1990s-era Quality scheme. It represents a car that came to Conrail from Penn Central.
Originally built with roofwalks that were later removed, the prototype boxcars still had bolt heads where grab irons and other hardware was taken off. The model replicates these details perfectly!
This HO scale model train features plenty of freestanding detail, including separate grab irons, uncoupling levers, air hoses, brake lines, and plug door hardware.
It's also big! This model is a foot long!
Dan evaluates the car's packaging, prototype accuracy, paint & detail, and how well it operates and conforms to applicable standards. As usual, a RIP Track segment is included where Dan shows how to address a couple of minor issues with the car.
If you're a fan of modern rolling stock or railroad equipment that served the auto industry, be sure to give this car a look!
