I was driving the black cooper S, (JPP 150 C) with 19 on the side. I couldn't get past the Mustang, made a last minute effort and spun into the rails, squashing the bumper a bit. Then my wife and I packed away our tent and drove back to Hayling Island. Good times.

REAL men racing proper old school cars! Where was I when THIS magnificence was happening? Oh yes, I was two! The only thing close to this now is a track day on which you can take your normal production car onto a track with others. I've done 4 track days but NOTHING compares to THIS! I've seen footage of banger racing from the 70's and they didn't have half the safety bollocks that they do in today's banger cars. I know that quite a few banger boys stopped when safety was introduced as it got too expensive.

Fabulous video. Thanks for sharing. They weren't much fun when we were actually there, but in hindsight, the 1970s absolutely rocked! The geezer in the Convertible Mustang, with the luxuriant mop of hair, holding off the field.... pure class! Probably had one hand on the wheel, the other squeezing a Lambert & Butler, and Grand Funk Railroad blaring out of the cassette player.

Here in the US, we are fortunate to still have our classic muscle car rivalry going with the Mustang, the Camaro, and the Challenger and Charger still being made. We could easily have a series of production car racing with just those 4 cars. With the several engine choices, I could imagine different engine classes where base engine V6 and turbo 4 go against each other, and then mid-level V8s, and then the supercharged V8s (I think there is actually one more tier of engine in there!) all battling for production car supremacy. That is just using American cars. I know there are other exciting rivalries in other parts of the world!

Culcune. Mustangs and Minis have been battling each other on the race tracks since the 60's here in Britain. Australia too. The battles in Historic Racing are always epic.
