So thankful for some of the cultural shift away from "hustle harder" culture that used to dominate everywhere. This video and leisure as fuel is so much healthier. It's not a matter of wanting to be less productive but rather prioritizing health in all forms above working ourselves into the grave. Beautiful video!

This is exactly what I needed to see and hear going into 2022. The last few months of 2021 were an unorganized blur and I wasn’t looking forward to jumping back into that mess after the holidays. But after some downtime I’ve been able to recharge and now I’m excited to put your suggestions into practice. Also, the video was shot extremely well as always and excellent choice on the Keychron K7 👀

At this stage in my life having a a crazy schedule running an indie studio, trying to stay green with learning, finding time for hobbies, raising two children, and trying to stay sane...I can attest to need to disconnect and do mindless things. It's not just valuable, it's necessary. Excellent video as always Matthew.

Funny that all my distractions kept me from watching this, even though I saw the notification weeks ago. Luckily, KZitem’s algorithm bumped it to the top again. 😅 For me, #1 cause to not getting work done- distractions! They are everywherreeee. The days I turn on Focus mode, and avoid checking news - I feel super productive. Thanks so much Matt, please keep up the awesome work. I would love if you explored the energy aspects of modern work/life balance. Given that a majority of people may WFH permanently - finding the time to refuel, being in right mindset, finding new passions/hobbies- I think these may need to be inspired from outside our homes, particularly for those in apartments. Food for thought. 🙂

Matthew, such a great video! I love the helpful ideas and your peaceful delivery of them against the beautiful Santa Monica backdrop. So excited that you have found your rhythm and are gracefully moving towards your goals. My favorites insights were: 1) Your environment can support your focus. This is a Feng Shui principle that some people overlook. 2) Distance = perspective. As you so aptly state, giving your brain space helps connect the dots and illuminates the bigger picture 3) Knowing your body and it's cycles of energy. This definitely supports me in not scheduling sessions late in the afternoon when my energy is low. I have a tip for balancing working from home so they don't blend ;-) KIDS! I focus on them until I get them off to school, then shift the focus to me. I prioritize exercise, then I work fairly intensely with clients from 10am-4pm when my KIDS get home. I take eating and mindful Matcha latte breaks in between -- but after they are home, I shift my focus back to them. If there's an extra project I need to focus on, I use the weekends b/c I don't feel burned out from the week. So, kids are a great and supportive boundary! LOL. Love you and love the work you are doing, Matthew. Fantastic.

Growing up we had this notion that people who stand top of the class spend 8 hours or more studying and in most cases it was true however there was this one teacher who told me differently.. the message I got was it does not matter how long you are with the books but what you do when you are in front of them makes the difference … simple , sensible and obvious … this video sort of brought that message back in a more resounding way ! Thank you!

Well done man. I will say for myself, I find that when I focus too much on planning my day/how I do things. I get lost in the actual routine and not in the work that I'm doing. I guess I just need to optimize the routine that works for me so I don't have to think about it. I always get so stressed out when I start a routine and then inevitably break it because of my ADHD. Then again, everyone is different. I have to spend time meditating and giving myself space to get into deep work. Respect for putting yourself out there and helping others, Matthew! Much love

I'm frequently guilty of playing my videos at 1.5 or 2x speed, trying to cram as much content consumption as I can in my viewing. However, your videos always force me to slow down, contemplate and consider my sense of urgency. As I reached the end of this video, I felt...calm? Or just sort of quieter in my own mind. It's hard to describe, but it's similar to the feeling I get after I've been in a period of flow and deep work. It's engaging content that asks of me to be more intentional with my time, and because of that, you received a new subscriber.

"We spend time on things that don't enrich our lives, but rather simply occupy our time" You really hit the nail on the head there. Question for you: Do you ever allow yourself to continue working past a sprint? I find that once I'm in my groove, I tend to just keep working on a project until I'm forced to stop by another commitment / burnt out by it for the day.
