I don't remember who said this, but the reason why there are so few Conservative comedians out there is because comedy requires self depreciation and reflection to make fun of your own flaws, but Conservatives don't tend to do this and prefer to insult those different then themselves.

Yes it's an "art form" but unlike all the other forms of art it must be free of criticism because the world will end if "comedy" is criticized. They don't understand that they're the special snowflakes being super precious about their work when they'd criticize a movie, an album, or anything else.

You said it: exactly. They are so self-serious and insecure, when the audience doesn't respond they must be "triggered" or too "woke" to appreciate comedy. Tbh, I had a lot more respect for comedy as an art form until the last few years. But then I noticed that comedy is the art form most packed full of practitioners who refuse to take responsibility for what they say with their art. "Comedy is art mannnn! It SAYS stuff!" Until you criticise what it says and then "It's just a joke man, stop being such an entitled snowflake!" Comedy really is an art form that deserves some space to be subversive, but for fuck's sake, I've never seen an art form so full of manbabies and class clowns who never grew up. Every other art form has a long and laudable (but difficult and mixed) history of coming to terms with what it has said and how it should improve. Only comedy wants to be art without accepting any of the responsibility. Your form can be meaningful art or it can be meaningless bullshit, but it can't be both just coz you want to have your cake and eat it.

Such a waste. He used to do some pretty decent impressions too, like Jack Nicholson. I've always had a soft spot for physical comedy because of my love of Jim Carrey and Robin Williams. How could anyone like him fall in line with such an objectively unfunny, dangerous crowd? He has degraded himself to the status of a jester, to use his own words, because he is only "funny" to those... people... because he mocks the left. If he does anything to the contrary, he will cease to be relevant. It's a disgrace to anyone who can properly be called a "comedian". Comedy is tragedy over time, but ironically this tragedy is doomed to remain a tragedy forever.

I used to be a fan of Breuer. He was very funny when he did humor about weed and heavy metal bands, and the guy had his own comedy tour where he'd do sets backed with a metal band. He was also a great storyteller. I've seen him live a couple times about 15 or so years ago. But something happened with him, and he took this deep dive into right-wing cynicism and conspiracy theories. I remember hearing him talk about his wife becoming more religious and conservative, and he seemed to follow her down that path. I think he even gave up smoking weed, and that also affected his comedy material since he really couldn't do stoner humor when he wasn't a stoner anymore. So he became this right-wing comedian who rails against things like the pandemic and the vaccine. Something I realized is that there aren't really many right-wing conservative comedians out there. I think that has to do with the nature of what comedy and humor is. Comedians often have to look at the world with a surprisingly analytical approach in order to shine a humourous light on the flaws, contradictions, absurdities, and hypocrisies in the world around them. But the Right is exceptionally self-serious about their views and beliefs, and they avoid looking at their own views and beliefs analytically because they're afraid of confronting the truth that the things they believe might actually be ignorant and wrong. Since they can't look at their own views in a humorous way, their attempts at humor often involve attacking those with opposing views in ways that come off as defensive, bitter, and cruel. And defensiveness, bitterness, and cruelty aren't really what most people look for in comedy.

He was never a brilliant comic, but he had a pretty solid act back in the day, and he seemed comfortable making a living doing the stand up circuit, which paid decent with his SNL credentials. I really respected that he cared for his father, with several age related health and cognitive issues, to the extent he did the last 5-6yrs of his life, and was open about the challenges of elder care, as in bathing, helping during bathroom mishaps, and taking him on tour with all those concerns. Pretty sure his dad would kick his ass for selling out so hard, just because he saw his name trending after a Rogan interview. I'm almost more disappointed as a lover of all things comedy, especially stand up, and how hacky his act is now, than I am about his verbal diarrhea.

Comedy requires a sense of perspective. If you can't comprehend how other people see things and appreciate that, then your comedy only covers the outward looking point of view.
