Haha wow, this looked spiffy when it was new.. Glad to say that this fume hood is well-used and had saved me a trip to the hospital a couple of times now. The chiller works perfectly now, it can run at -10*C! With no issues at all.. And no more freezing pumps using anti freeze instead of water. Once I spriff up the chiller, and make a case for it so it looks professional, and once I install my new vacuum regulator I will make another video of the hood to show you guys everything I have done to give you ideas for your own fume hoods or just to show the curious viewers out there

This is one of the best DIY hoods I've seen out there. I know this is really old, but I'd love to see another video of your hood how it is today. Also, what'd you use for your chiller? Something commercial or DIY?

by the way. great work, nicest I've seen by far, it takes into consideration the fact that it may not be the best idea to use certain types of materials for fume hoods, such as wood, which remains exposed as opposed to this design

That looks nice. Good to see people who care about what they build 👍

To make your e track find someone that has an aluminium blade for a table saw. Using the fence, cut a piece of stock in the configuration you want. Easy peasy. Nice work.

Great hood! I'm almost finished mine, but it's not quite in the same league with yours. I need to learn some electronics!

Haha thanks, and electronics aren't that hard, give it a shot! Just think of it as water in a pipe.. The water has to get from the wall (plug) through your lights or whatever, then back to the wall. Make sure you have no leaks ;)

Good design, very professional. The fan is not ideal, however, because the motor is in the path of the vapors.
@nilamotk

Thanks, and I'm aware about the motor.. But I wasn't going o build a pressurized unit (sealed, forcing fresh air in instead of sucking exhaust out) this fan is rated to withstand chemical vapours aswell, so I should be alright.. On top of that I don't usually do things in the hood that are corrosive to often so there isn't much stress on any of it.

+nilamotk you mean sealed as in a glove box would be or? If it was positive pressure, is there another vent that circulates air internally and filters it?
@nilamotk

Yes I mean the use of a glove box if its positive pressure.

Where are the other videos covering your fume hood? I would like to see a lot more of your fume hood including design, materials, etc. It's very impressive. I have been planning on building a fume hood for some time, and I must say, yours is very inspirational.

Thank you, I am glad someone appreciates the videos I make, and the effort I put towards DIY. I have a couple other videos on my channel about my fumehood. I can always make another video if needed. Basically it's an office cubicle desk that I put a top, and front frame for windows on. I then purchased a large volume exhaust fan used for high powered kitchen exhaust hoods, and mounted it to the top of the hood and ducted it outside. The fan had its own speed controller that I took apart and put into a faceplate to give a more finished look. The chiller is a completely separate system and I just mounted the temp controller on the top of the hood for aesthetics. I didn't have a parts list, Or a drawing. I just "winged" it and put it together as I went. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

@@nilamotk I'm impressed, hearing how you could just wingit and build a subzero chiller that works so well! 🦉

I know this video is old But for the E-Track just use some old sliding glass shower door tracks and door frames and shorten the doors and add your new glass... Hope this helps

I just found a dual head recirculating pump in one of my many boxes of hoarding. I through out a huge chiller on wheels. I could kick myself. I was moving and was so sick and so tired I couldn't put one more thing in the truck. the damn thing worked so good that it would freeze water so stupid.

If you could find a big slab of soap stone it would be better than the metal. but that fume hood is about the slickest that I have ever seen. We tossed a nice laminar flow professional hood a few years back that had not even been assembled yet. Im kicking myself now. It had positive and negative controls. you set it for a positive pressure when you are dealing with DNA and crap like that

I built a laminar flow hood years back.. I have a pure HEPA air filter from the HVAC imdustry, I rigged it to a plenum and added diffusers. I used it for mycology growing shiitake and reshi mushrooms. I recently took it apart back into pieces for storage. It was small, I would love to build a nice 70" or so wide one in the future.

I ended up winning a ridiculously low priced auction for an inline fan @ 850 cfm!!! Holy Christ that think clears my whole basement.! I don't even have to keep my acrylic sheet on the damn thing unless im doing something that is extra nasty. 8 inch inline fan was so overkill. but hey im safe

Is the sheet metal over wood sheets? or the whole is composed purely of sheet metal?

Hey there. I'm trying to find the correct formula in order no know which centrifugal fan i need. I know it's related to the sash's opening dimensions. My sash's opening dimentions are 1 meter width, and 20cm height , but i will be happy to also get the actual formula thanks
