"Toxicity" is good follow-up song to feature. ...also, you should consider including more classic/hard rock/metal bands in your reviews to increase your viewership/subscriber base. There's a large demographic who watch these reactions from music professionals such as yourself who want to hear a fresh perspective on a singer/song that they've been listening to for years. This is most desirable because analysis from a fresh outside perspective has the ability to make an old song brand new again. That's what I'm here for.

Since the backing vocalist and Serge, and the whole band are Armenians, they brought a little Armenian sound into their singing. As a person who lives in Russia and has touched the Armenian culture, I hear this in some of the songs of this group. I mean the style of singing.

16:35 that is Armenian riffs, you'll find a lot of similar riffs in national Armenian songs and melodies. They are usually not in a notes you'd expect, they usually appear in an Eastern harmonic, sometimes weird to ear notes, usually in a melodic minor scale. But Serj is known for mixing "out of context" traditional riffs, beats, melodies to System music.

From what I've been seeing from SOAD vocal analysises, is they are notoriously nonrepetitive. I think that's part of why they're so fascinating. They really pull from their Armenian heritage, hence how Serj has such a nasty vibrato and his riffing. Dude, amazing job. Just go down their list, do it all!

SOAD is far more sophisticated than their seeming peers, as you observed. Elizabeth has developed a bit of a crush on the band and did a reaction to this song too; in it she took a deep look at the lyrics and how the music matched what was sung-and what was behind what was sung. Your respective analyses make nice, complementary companions. My personal favorite SOAD song is Aerials. There too the music video is revelatory as to intent (beats cliff notes!)

I love how the harmonies aren't turned down in the mix. Because they are at equal volumes as the main vocal lines, I almost can't tell where to go to sing along. I find myself alternating back and forth between the main vocal lines and the harmonic lines, and I kind of love that.

Hi Peter, I’m relatively new to the channel but I wanted to comment and say how much I appreciate your expert analysis of the artists that I’ve seen thus far and that being said, I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind reacting to attract my favorite band Radiohead. one of their later ones titled Lotus Flower. Thom Yorke’s soothing vocals seem to lay in contrast to the trauma infused lyrics in just the perfect way, in my opinion and I’d love to hear your take. Keep up the awesome work and I look forward to much more from your channel.

I'm always amazed by the poetic shift why the grit on why x2 then the 3rd time the grit is on forsaken. Great symbology of being angry at 'father' to the feeling of the punishment. Also turns the statement to sounding like a question, which is the basis of the song. How come a drug overdose is less tragic than say a car wreck.

The harmonies are sung by Daron, the guitar player. If you want to analyse his voice better, you can listen to either "Lonely Day" by SOAD, or one of the song of his other project, Scars on Broadway (which is REALLY good too). My personal fave is "Funny" but others might be more popular.Serj's solo project is also SO good, you really can't go wrong with those guys imo. For more harmonies from these 2, Soldier's Side is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, and for more Daron screaming his head off like a madman, BYOB is very good Have fun ^_^

SOAD is always welcome! Another Project you might enjoy quite a bit is Ayreon. Arjen Anthony Lucassen composes and produces Prog Rock/Metal Operas as concept albums in a huge SciFi Universe. The music has elements from Folk, Musical Theatre to Prog Rock and Metal with a lot of singers who play different characters of the story of any given album. A good place to start would be "The Day That The World Breaks Down" from the 2017 album The Source. The official video is mostly studio footage and has text pop-ups with background information from Arjen about the singers, the recording process and the story. There will be a lot to analyse and compare, because this song features and introduces all 11 main singers of the album. p.s.: the last time I tried to post a comment with a link it got automatically deleted. So no link in this one. Sorry.
