I hope all those men from the 505 82nd Airborne made it back home. Some of those soldiers left the United States as 18 and 19 year olds and they returned to the United States as men and veterans. I'm proud of our American Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, and Coast Guardsmen.

By 2004, Special forces and a small contingent of US conventional forces had won the war in Afghanistan. It wasn't until a large number of conventional forces were introduced into theater the tide had shifted. Just as the ODA member had said, a blood feud, an eye for an eye is exactly the emotions this indigenous population run on. It is incredible to me how the SOP's have changed so much since this time frame. It is crazy how Afghanistan turned into a hornets nest by 2008 until current, all because of happy trigger fingers, and 18 year old Americans.

+ROBINSON4942 Don't blame the guys who went out there, what do you expect from a 19 year old pissed off marine when he starts getting shot at. But you are right, Afghanistan was meant for special operations and support troops everything else just turned it into a cluster fuck

+george phillips High ranking government officials are to blame. Lack of understanding, no communication to soldiers on the ground and lack of funds and training for conventional units, and of course an over all lack of maturity rank high or low. Don't get me wrong, a 19 year old marine is an honorable man, but not comparable to a seasoned Taliban fighter. Those type of soldiers are for wars that require a large contigent, not to be used against an elusive gorilla army.

I really do feel sorry for the troops and particularly the navy guys that feature on this episode. The sanctions were imposed on Saddam by the uk and the USA for supposed weapons of mass destruction. I lived in the Middle East at the time ( I am British). The real reason the Uk and America enforced the restriction of oil from Iraq was because Saudi Arabia put conditions on the multi billion arms sales to them, that the Uk and USA had to make sure Iraq could no sell oil, which would keep the Saudi oil prices high. Most of the American servicemen I met in country, did not know where Iraq or Kuwait were on the globe let alone the Islamic culture and beliefs. The sad thing is, the guy at the beginning of this episode and subsequent people stated that they were going to fight in the Middle East to stop future terrorist attacks in America. You could have nuked Iraq of any other middle eastern country but you will still have Islamic fundamental fighters that will take the fight to you with no fear of being killed, in fact the relish the thought of it. I don't have any answers for you or us, but to defeat the likes of Isis and others you need to stop the funding , you need to recognise where that funding is coming from and stop the political correctness shown the your friendly oil producing nations.

JustA Troll well they get deployed all over the world sometimes as a military operation wearing military clothing and sometimes they have to blend in with the regular population so if there face is shown all over it makes their job of blending in a lot harder. And yes special forces operators do have a larger target on their backs just because they are the ones that truly strike fear in their enemy and the enemy knows they are over matched and have no chance against a sf unit.

I saw something that I found completely surprising and disturbing at the same time. Why the fuck are our soldiers conducting interviews or having meetings with the local people out in public and in plain sight of the enemy to see? Think about it, if you were that local tribesman that was pulled aside on the road or outside of the building, would you give any intel that might ultimately lead to casulaties of the Taliban or which ever enemy militia? FUCK NO I WOULDN'T. The first guy that was interviewed outside on the mud road next to his mud hut looked fucking nervous as hell and I dont blame him. You have to go inside his mind to understand that unless you are fucking crazy or have a death wish, most people would not give them any signficant intel. In fact there is higher likelyhood and probability that he would give intel to the enemy that might lead to US casualties and that is what I find disturbing. What I find surprising is that our military has not thought about this SOP (I highly doubt there is such a protocal) The fact is that anyone should fear the enemy more than the US soldiers. Unless the US has very strong intel or video of the local tribesman with an AK in his hand walking along side the enemy, the US wont do shit since they will not have enough evidence to punish the guy, but if the enemy is able to see that he is talking to a US soldier in broad daylight, then I would aasume that he might very well be considered a marked man, especially so if the enemy just so happened to have sustained casualites soon after the interview. Plus the us soldiers are not going to stick around 24/7 like the enemy is. ALL interviews and meetings with any local tribesmen should be conducted behind closed doors. If there are any officers who reads my post, please bring it up the chain of command and keep it very quite in terms of publicity. Do not make any videos to announce the change in policy. If any officer reads my post and is able to bring it to the attention of the higher brass then please message me so I can delete my post. I could not help but think of Sun Su and the art of war when I was thinking about this. One of the most important things if not the most important thing to winning a war is to outsmart your enemy.

no idiot maybe if YOU did your research you'd see how the REAL map of AFGH. looks like now . The American installed regime's territory is shrinking every day .over 2/3ds of the country is a no go for foreigners , it's just that the yank ego is so big and doesn't let them say out loud that they fared no better than the Soviets . Karma is a bitch isn't it , only this time no superpower helped them , Pakistan's help is nothing compared to what the US did and gave to fight off the Soviets ,which by the way didn't really loose nor had that much problems from the US backed mujahedeen than they had domestic economy issues that forced them to abandon that wasteland. Real knowledge is not your thing I guess or you watch too much government/establishment narrated media. The term "Fake News" didn't come out for nothing nor was it about the new internet info sites, blogs or so or so called alternative media , it was about the well established "gods" of truth telling like CNN,MSNBC, ABC, even FOX and not to mention Washington Post and NY Times , but that's for another discussion

Wes Sanders Which Afghans and Iraqis attacked you first exactly???? Fucking hell like, the propaganda machine is strong in the US... US interference has been going on in the Arab world for decades prior to 9/11. History books are a good cure for this kind of mindless nonsense. I suggest James Barrs 'A Line In The Sand' to start. You'll see the war for oil began around 100 years ago.
