Clubs who break the Premier League’s financial rules can still expect to be given significant points deductions in the future, Sky Sports News has been told, despite a proposal to replace points penalties with a fine.
Premier League clubs are attending their latest shareholders meeting on Wednesday (April 10) where the future of squad cost controls is the primary issue on the agenda.
The Premier League said after the last meeting in March that they were committed to "prioritise the swift development and implementation of a new league-wide financial system".
There will be no vote on the issue, but the league wants the new system in place by the summer, and certainly before the new season starts in August.
