12:35 I even felt the same at first when I started to learn ROS and found that virtual machine is not fit for running the ROS in efficient... gazebo struggles a lot to start..by the way I recently discovered your channel and it's fantastic! .I'm curious abt ETH Zurich's robotics programs. Thanks for the great vids, mate!

Hello David! I got rejected at TUD and TUE on Computer Science. Not rejected, but the ranking number is way too high to at least hope for a place. Thus, I have decided to go to Business Information Technology at UTwente. It emphasises more on Business solutions: how to integrate solutions and understand problems nowadays’ companies face. Do you think I can get an ESOP scholarship in Computer Science masters’ if I perform well here? What do u think? Thanks! Keep it up!

Hey man! Thanks for sharing! Getting rejected it very different than not applying haha. Your plan sounds really solid, and what matters most is that you're motivated to study what you'll be studying. As I say in the esop video, it doesn't matter what you study, as long as you go above and beyond to solve important problems. I guess for a CS master you'll have to be on the technical side of BIT :)

Hi David I'm from India. I'm working as Design Engineer at GM India. I am planning to have masters in Robotics system in ETH. Do I have to know any programming language. Basically I'm from mechanical Engineering

You don't need to per se but it would be extremely useful to know the basics of either C++/Python or Matlab. Depends a lot on what you want to do though.

Did this course use ROS1 or ROS2?

ROS1

@@itsdavidalonso With all respect, why hasn't this course used ros2? I just want to know.
@itsdavidalonso

@@andreasps579 ROS1 is still being used in many labs of ETH, so it's useful for students to familiarize themselves witha version they will be using in their research. Some ROS2 concepts are also taught, but in general, there's a lot of overlap between the two so it doesn't really matter since it's a beginners course

@@itsdavidalonso I see. I am working with ROS and my supervisor ordered me explicitly to use ROS2 directly although I only have very little knowledge of ROS1. He said it is because the support for ROS1 will be cut off in the near future.

@@andreasps579 yeah that's a fair point, I'm sure this course will teach ROS2 soon, it is objectively better!
