These are the bread and butter of my workouts. I start my sessions on these and spend the majority of my energy on them ..I see them as a core lift in my programme and workouts. They just give you the best upper back/Yoke results and give you that power look. and they're badass they actually make you more powerful and explosive

i can confirm. I don't have much muscle but the places this exercise adds size in definitely gives me an overall muscley look.

Snatch grip high pulls are underrated, I hardly hear about them being programed except for Olympic lifters

I saw a video from christian thibaudeau about this exercise a while ago and have done it ever since, the DOMs never fade! One thing I remember him saying is that catching the bar at the bottom with some velocity is what causes all the damage (the good type of damage), but the traps are designed for it and they can take it. I sometimes wonder what other exercises can benefit from a fast eccentric and still be safe.

I've been doing these 2 or 3 times a week for the last few years. I feel like they also work the side delts a good amount. Or that might be due to my OHPing three times a week as well. But when i see myself doing these on camera w/o a shirt, I can definitely see my side and rear delt flexing just before I lift it from the floor.

Love these, saw Klokov saying he does this 5x5 every weightlifting day for his motor pattern. I added it 2x to my upper days as pretty much my primary back movement excluding snatch & conventional deadlifts.

Start 3x3 then progress the sets. I went 10x3 right off the hop. I've never been sore like that in my upper back . Will continue doing these but less volume. Great exercise 💪

Well on your 10 x 3 days you definitely want to do a slow pyramid up. But I always suggest doing the least amount of volume you can that you can tolerate. The first time I did these I swear I could not elevate my shoulders without feeling like my traps were going to push my head forward.

this gives crazy trap DOMS unlike anything else. Even from low volume.

Yep, It is the best exercises for trap growth and I don't even think it is close. In order to get the same stimulus I'd have to load up 5 or 6 plates on that bar.

Hey man, thanks for the great video! Which variation of this exercise would considerably hit the hamstrings as well? I train bjj and was thinking of replacing deadlifts with these as the CNS fatigue is just too much now. Thanks!
@TheStrengthClassroom

I don't necessarily think it's a deadlift replacement. I'd still do either and RDL or a good morning as your main hinge. And do these high pulls of mid shin blocks.

@TheStrengthClassroom

I honestly don't find them too taxing. It's not something you want to do a suit ton of volume on anyways. And since there is no strain. You won't be affecting your recovery anyways.

It doesn't need to be as fast as other lifts. I rarely went over 225 for sets of 3 and got most of my trap growth from that
