Good stuff. I’m some way through welding and grinding the rust out of my hx tonner at the moment. The corners of the plenum are the worst and the top cowl rusted into the cab side so off it came. Took some time to get the spot welds out but it had to be done, I’m not replacing the bottom part for what they cost so I’ve used bits of metal from the clean sections of the old cowl and repairing the lower plenum where the rust holes took hold. That’s the worst of the rust in mine so I’ll be glad when that’s done and move onto the fun stuff. Has a 202 in it and I’m going to remove it just to clean up the engine bay and the engine and will use it for the power source for a while, just keen to get it on the road and the six is so simple and easy to work on when required. Your cowling definitely looks in great shape but get a snapshot right into the inside corners with your phone or inspection camera to be sure.

The corners of the cowl are my biggest worry too... I have a bore scope that I'll use to look right up in there to be sure. Still have to grind off the old repair (previous owner) from the cowl, as there are some small bubbles coming back up. Fingers crossed I can keep the cowl on, but still get to try some small repair welding (my husband has some sheet steel for his Torana plenum so I will learn from how he goes about it). I really understand about just wanting to get them on the road and enjoy them, so I reckon keeping your 202 for a while is a great plan. Engine swaps in these H-series cars are not hard. Hoping to hear an update from you now and again - thanks for commenting!

Stace, if you haven't found them already there are 2 types of Jelly bean rims, Alloy and steel. The steelies were made by "Speedy" wheels and were 3/8 inch thick (9.5mm) for the young ones) they are most certainly heavy enough to put on a 1 tonner. If there is a way of making contact, I may have a spare set...

James I'm curious... I now know of the difference but haven't seen the steekie version anywhere yet. Please email staceonwheels@gmail.com and thanks!

That's a great thing to have achieved with your dad. I spent a bit of time in the workshop with my dad as a kid. Thanks for the tip about the wheels - jellybeans are still at the top of my list, maybe 8 inch all round though (not sure yet). Thanks for commenting!
