This is a mangrove area in the heart of Darwin and easily accessible by foot via numerous raised banks along stormwater drains. It is part of the Casuarina Coastal Reserve. The mangrove in this location has many dense stands of Rib-fruited Mangrove which are home to the beautiful Red-headed Honeyeater the primary pollinator of this species of mangrove. The locality also features some species amiss in the more coast oriented mangroves. The Red-headed honeyeater is a very small bird, the male having a red head and back while the female is more plain colored. They are very vocal birds and fiercely territorial. This video is a three part series, with clip one introducing the area in a more general way while the remaining present detail features of this habitat and some of the species that live in there.
