Martin-Baker had already successfully demonstrated a zero-zero ejection-seat in 1961.

At the end the narrator says the only man-rated zero-zero ejection seat in the world, or in the US? The automatically-deploying (and inflating) seat pack dinghy is interesting, while the Martin-Baker seats had seat-pack survival packs (it looked like a briefcase on the ones I am familiar with), did it inflate in contact with water?

I had only seen a little of this before. Thanks for posting! At the time, Weber was located in Burbank and these tests were performed at Hansen Dam recreational area. I was an escape systems design and test engineer with McDonnell-Douglas in the late 80s-early 90s and attended several conferences where I met Jim Hall and a few others in that film.

The way the seat tumbles after the first rocket burns out seems alarming, but nothing seemed to get tangled. The 'pilot' mentions a gun firing (probably the drogue gun intended to both stabilise the seat when falling from altitude, and to start extraction of the parachute (guessing, it's how the Martin-Baker seats with which I am more familiar work), which phase seems to go by very quickly in the zero-zero ejection, this drogue gun may defeat the possible tangling by launching the parachute drogue as far away as possible. Good design work.
