Scrape your Knuckles, catch some Tails.
Characters Fought:
Classic Sonic
So these were a set of five characters by xXPGlitz236 of the five main classic Sonic Characters, most likely inspired by Sonic Superstars. And while I love them a whole bunch, I was curious if I could make a balance patch of sorts for them. It was a bit of a personal project than anything, I don't want to feel like I'm telling anyone how they should make MUGEN characters, really I just wanted to try and get the power levels of these characters to match the rest of my MUGEN roster. The download for them, as well as a more in-depth explanation to the changes and what my goal with them was can be found here: drive.google.c... Starting off with Sonic, it's a very straightforward but solid iteration of Sonic. I like him quite a bit. The original version of Sonic and his friends had a universal item box super. And while I appreciate the attention to detail, a super that's basically either a heal or invulnerability akin to Pheramosa EX's substitute is really, really hard to balance so I basically ended up removing it from their kits. It pretty much let them get their level 3 Chaos Emerald power up for free. And while saving up meter during round 1 to guarantee winning round 2 is a strategy I'm alright with, being able to basically do that every single round is why I hated fighting YOU_SloppyMans' NYN. On another note, much like the rest of these chars, you're able to configure which kind of voice lines he had. And you know I had to choose Urkel.
Classic Tails
While I do adore the several allusions to Tails' Adventure/Sky Patrol, I might have gotten a bit frustrated trying to fight him. I feel like if the command grab came out a little slower and the bomb move knocked the opponent backwards rather than upwards, it would feel like less of a issue. But sadly I wasn't talented enough to make those changes, and admittedly I basically turned off his command grab in the final release of these edits because it was making me a little too salty.
Classic Knuckles
Oddly enough this is the one character that got mostly buffed. His DP didn't have any Iframes on startup and his throw did less damage than usual. So I fixed those in hopes of making him just as strong has his comrades.
Classic Amy
The biggest change here was the fact that I had to basically remove her Hammer Throw special because it basically acted the same way Ashley Graham does in Brergrsart's Real Police Dude, which was an intentionally cheap joke character. And I didn't have enough MUGEN prowess to be able to make it hit the opponent only once and/or not bounce around the screen, which were the ways I could think of to change the move. Maybe I'll revisit these edits but they gave me hella burnout so it might take a while till I do.
Classic Eggman
This guy might be the highlight of the whole pack. It's another take on "YTP Robotnik" and is probably the best one out there. There was another fullscreen projectile I ended up removing as well, but that was more because it felt hard to balance and didn't really feel necessary. But I also tweaked how the Badniks worked, and I really like how they turned out. They became more expendable, while still contributing to Eggman's incredibly strong lock-out game. Basically what if Jack-O Valentine was hot. All jokes aside, despite the nerfs, all of these characters were still very very strong, and I'm definitely gonna keep at least some of these around to use in the future.
