My assault was VERY similar to Nina's...except I was 13. My dad STILL asked me what I was wearing and if I encouraged them. That's how deep rooted r*pe culture is. A father will come up for excuses to blame his own daughter for her assault.

@moonlily1

@@NatalieLovesxo I think young people often misunderstand consent and have a lot of faulty ideas about it- like being in a relationship with someone is a kind of blanket consent so coercion doesn't 'count' in this case, or that coercion isn't force so reluctant or begruding consent is still indeed consent, or that a person's enjoying an encounter that they didn't consent to negates a lack of consent, or choosing to have future encounters or continue the relationship negates that lack of consent. I think many people engage in sexual activities that are not fully consensual and don't categorize those encounters as 'rape', whether they are the coerced or the coercer. And when we stop thinking of consent as a gray area, then we realize rape is actually extremely common. HOWEVER- no one thinks that drugging someone's drink and having sex with them while they are half conscious is a consensual act. No one in this situation doesn't know what they are doing no matter what lies they tell themselves. That is why Al absolutely doesn't want that tape to be seen, because he knows perfectly well that is does NOT show a consensual encounter, no matter what litany of excuses he rattles off. He doesn't really believe his own bullshit, deep down.

Basically her being murdered was the only way to get justice for Nina. Because he killed her, the motive has to come out as to way he killed her. The statute of limitations for rape has long passed. In order to defend himself he would have to say why she would come after him and admit what he did. However he would likely say it was just an accusation thus that's where the video comes in as proof. This ultimately get the justice she wanted because everyone would know what he did to Nina.

It's interesting that so many men were shocked by this movie, whilst so many women were shaking their heads in acknowledgment. The vast majority of women get assaulted at LEAST once in their life, usually by a self-proclaimed "nice guy". Every woman is told all the same things Cassie is told, " I was young, I'm not a bad person, you should "move on", it was so long ago, you were drunk, you were wearing revealing clothes, etc. This movie also shows quite accurately why most women don't come forward. The woman or girl in question is simply called the W word, she is told to let it go, the man's future is more valued than hers, the woman or girl is written off as "crazy", isn't believed, is told she exaggerated. Women often don't any means to "fight back" without knowing it could cost them at lot, potentially their life. I'm very glad the movie wisely cast "likeable" people as the perps, because this is true to life. While it's sad that Cassie dies, it also realistic in that women often have to pay the ultimate price for any sort of real justice. Sad, true, and heartbreaking honest. Every teen boy and young man should have to watch this movie.

The way her murder is played for laughs when the men are discussing it was a kind of commentary on those The Hangover-style movies where women are faceless and disposable and we're supposed to find humour in male characters doing extremely misogynistic things. It packs a gut punch this time though, because we know and love the female character, but most of the time, viewers just brush past that misogyny.

There was a documentary put out by a group of college girls who'd been assaulted on campus but no one helped them. One girl, in an attempt to get some coverage, started dragging the mattress she was assaulted on to every class as the boy wasn't even removed from school and was in some of her classes. Anyway I went to see it in Berkeley, CA; that was about 15 years ago. I think its still happening. Its usually just a few guys on campus who are causing 90% of the assaults but they are usually wealthy kids and no one will accuse them.

You hear stories like the one of Artemis, the virgin Greek Goddess of the hunt, turning a young hunter into a stag and having him ripped apart by his own dogs because he (either accidentally or planned depending on who's telling the story) saw her bathing naked and stayed rather than looking away, and sometimes a bit of you wonders if she went too far. And then you hear about stories like this, and you wonder instead if Artemis didn't have the right idea. I know we can't compare the story of a literal goddess to that of a story of regular humans, but still.....you start to wonder if men like that deserve it...

I felt soooo let down and upset when I first saw this movie, possibly because of the marketing. I went into it super certain that she was going to be killing all those guys she encountered on nights out, not just scaring them, so I was stoked for a cathartic revenge type movie. And what I got instead was sooo bleak and the fact that not even one man dies! Not one! I was literally so angry, like for days. I guess ultimately I feel like it was more of a movie for men, the thesis of it being "don't be a r@pist", because I don't really feel like it was teaching women anything they didn't already know. I think I was just crestfallen that I'd gone into it thinking I was the target audience and then ended up with a totally different experience than that. So I guess what I'm saying is....if anyone reading this knows of any actually satisfying r@pe revenge movies....lemme know lol

I never experienced this type of thing but I’ve had multiple male predators in my life. It’s crazy how much men deny women’s experiences. This stuff happens waaaaay too much. I feel like every single woman on this planet has experienced a man displaying inappropriate behaviors towards them…and a lot of it happens when we are literal children. Then men come complaining about “not all men”…but it sure is a crapload of men if we have all experienced this at some point. They like to say women can’t ever be accountable for their actions but it sure seems like men have the extact same issue that is 100xs worse.

I wanted to see Cassie get revenge for Nina, and I guess at the end she does. And there were parallels to Ryan being a bad "nice guy" and the "nice guy" we see at the beginning and other hints that I thought was clever. My one critique though is Cassie using r-pe as revenge towards Madison. It's really not something I'd wish on anybody. In order for that to happen, there would still be r*pists. And I hope nobody was cheering during that scene. You could argue the movie doesn't try to make her look good for paying that guy to do something with her, which also, he is majorly to blame for going through with it seeing how drunk she was and didn't get consent from her directly (also the way Cassie knew the guy would go through with it even though no one in their right mind would, confirms the pattern of so many men being willing to take advantage of women). But the movie does reward her with evidence because now another person has gone through this immense trauma. At the end of the day, I would hope it wouldn't take someone experiencing trauma to empathize and care about another person. Like we also saw with that teacher with the daughter not care about Nina but suddenly shifts her perspective when she thinks it's her daughter.

If we want something similar there's 'She Said' also starring Carey Mulligan.

So MaXXine 2024 will be like this film 🤔 Has the same story and from the trailer, I saw she also goes to clubs. Im waiting to watch it 👍🏽 Carey Mulligan is a good actor though. Barely recognised her in Saltburn and she was so sweet in The Great Gatsby😍
