Hi.. What about this sentence? 'Her name is Mona.' in this sentence we are using 'her' as subject pronoun but actually it is an object pronoun. Please explain
@LearnEnglishLab
7 жыл бұрын
Hi Anjali, 'her' in that sentence is neither a subject nor an object pronoun. The subject of the sentence is 'Her name' (not just 'her'). The word 'her' is a possessive pronoun here that is part of the noun phrase ('Her name') which is the subject. In a different sentence like "I saw her yesterday." - 'her' is an object pronoun as you say.

Thank you teacher for helping us. I want to know about the pronoun for animals. We use its as personal pronoun for animals; but what is the subject pronoun for it. For example : once upon a time , there was a dog. He/it was wagging its tail. Which is correct? What would be the subject pronoun for animals?
@LearnEnglishLab
6 жыл бұрын
Hi Reena, generally we use _it_ for animals. But if we have a relationship to an animal (like if it's a pet), then we use he/she. Compare: 1. "I was walking down the street when a dog came up to me. It was wagging its tail." 2. "I have a pet dog named Fido. He often comes up to me wagging his tail." :)

Well done sir! I am impressed. This is my first time watching your video and I must say it is thoroughly explained. I also love that you allow audience participation and point out common mistakes. Plus, the fact that you speak in moderate pacing makes it easier to keep up with what you're saying. It is especially helpful for those who are not native speakers of the English Language or is having difficulty on the topic being discussed. It makes it easier to process ^_^ .....
