One question I have, is where we see the industry going on regards to higher definition audio. The issue I see, is that the world is moving away from physical media to streaming (so lower bandwidth for years to come). In addition to this, people are moving to sound bars. This creates 2 legitimate issues in which studios are less incentivized to invest further. And, if the theaters don’t recover after all of the shut downs, streaming will be the entire focus (which is where Disney seems to be headed). I know that Netflix is pushing for more channels within Atmos encoding, but the long term viability of this is in question.

Good video / I murdered my home cinema a few years ago trying to adopt 7.1 (for the release of jaws Blu-ray) didn't work at all /overkill in my set up. Seating placement is the tricky part for most homes / sofas against walls etc.

Jon is the guru and what he says in this arena is gospel. The current CEDIA bible (i.e. - white paper) on speaker placement is effectively a de-Trinnov’d version of Jon’s guide. Listen when he speaks 👂

Great session! Bummer I missed the live Q&A! I have a question around side surrounds with multiple rows. I was planning to use bi-poles in the middle of the two rows, but he mentioned using multiple speakers in an array might be better. For AVR's/processors that aren't Trinnov, how would we accomplish this? Wire the speakers together in series/parallel? Or would bi-poles be the better option in this case?
@therealshanelee
4 жыл бұрын
You can't since the sound can't move down the wall properly. If you wire in parallel like he mentioned the sound would start in say the right speaker and then jump straight to all your speakers you just wired together at the same time. It would just get really loud on that one group of surrounds all at once.

For one row sitting, was the diagram showing the 6 "upper level" speakers as atmos/ceiling channels or were they 6 channels about the listening level that point down to the listener? And if they are meant to be just above the ear level channels and not atmos, do the upper channels just duplicate the ear level channels?

It's a pity that I missed the Q&A part...O would have loved to ask how to get more "tactile" bass. My two 15" Subs provide a pretty flat response from 15Hz to 100Hz, but it rarely really "shakes the room". My Subs are placed diagonally. If I place them both at the front or use just one, the FR is a lot worse, but I get more "earthquake"...

I have a question regarding the center channel. I was watching the other day batman vs superman And the center channel sounded low volume like if a cover was in front of it. This movie was a rental from apple tv btw. But I watch other movies like bluray and it kinda sounds low volume too. Setting are at 100hz and level at 0.5 the speaker its rate it to go down to 65hz. Im thinking adding an external amplifier. Any suggestions?

I have 3 suggestions. First is to angle center speaker to ears with laser. 2nd is to level match speakers with umik or sound meter. 3rd is to get a center with greater detail. I used to use elac unifi and it was always irritating to understand dialogue. When I got M&K speakers the issue went away.

Most home theatres are massively degrading the experience by adding too many speakers. What they are talking about here are massive, very high end, theatres. For most people, spending their limited budget on getting the L/R right first, then using basic surrounds, will result in far better sound. Unfortunately, most think that having 10+ speakers will sound good when they can only afford $500-$1000/per speaker. It won’t. You are much better off putting 80% of your budget into the main speakers. The great thing about Trinnov is it will make this system sound like there are 10+ speakers.
