Roofer call it damage but an insurance adjuster calls it wear and tear.

That’s always the big debate. It helps to have a very recent storm date, like we have March 3, 2023. If not, they always say wear and tear

That’s when you ask them to explain how it fits the criteria of wear and tear.

How do you know what shingles are discontinued just by looking at them, also how do you pitch to a homeowner that you are door knocking talking about storm damage as far as “creased shingles.”

I’ve done this my whole life. Seen more than enough to know which shingles are no longer made. We don’t knock doors. People call us to come look at their roofs

100% true. Unfortunately wind damage is one of the most challenging claims.

Where we are located, wind is all we really get, so we are pretty good at getting them covered. We recently got hail for the first time in years and I feel like we are having to learn about hail all over again.

Just pay a roofer to go through and hand tab all your loose shingles with some geocel 2300. Or make an insurance claim and pay your deductible. Depending on which one is cheaper
@roofingtips

Why would you hand seal shingles that are already broken? Even if the deductible was more than the cost of a roofer to seal it, the insurance company owes for this roof. I guarantee you the deductible is a lot less than what the cost of a new roof out of pocket would be!

you can definitely see that damage with a drone.

I disagree, you may see the creases, but will never know the full extent of the damage without a real inspection
@phycosis17

I also disagree. I even do drone inspections and always recommend and even tell everyone I inspect, that if I see anything with a drone, I will 100% still find more with a full inspection. Creasing in some instances is still hard to see. For starters as well, it is impossible to check seals or even brittleness of a shingle. All of which are taken into factor when not just making a claim but also how durable the roof remains.

That’s a discontinued shingle. Why are you so concerned about how much damage is up there?

This is a storm damage claim, so I have to show and document storm damage and that it’s discontinued

Can’t tell if there’re loose shingles until you get up there. In some good winds. Your roof may look like it’s about to fly away because all of the loose shingles are being lifted like they’re flocking their wings. But never get torn or unattached.
