The lateral inversion property of plain mirror is not fully correct. Basically when we show a book in front of a mirror we ourself turn the reading side of the book laterally. This action autometically switch left and right with respect to the current reader. To understand properly please do this small test. Take a transparent object like a glass or transparent plastic. And then write AMBULENCE on it. Then without turning the side just hold it in front of a mirror. You will be able to read the AMBULENCE , there will be no lateral inversion. Just think whether this is explainable with lateral inversion, I don't think so. Then turn the writing side in front of the mirror. Now you see lateral inversion because we just now turned the side laterally. If you look carefully you will notice mirror is showing the same thing what you see through the transparent glass. Please check.
