The "singing a different tune today” comment by the news anchor was unnecessary. Taralyn, from the beginning, offered multiple solutions that would allow the community to have access to the creek that didn't initially include any exchange of money and the county and community didn't like her solutions. She willingly shared access of the creek through her property for 1.5 years on the condition people keep the area clean, keep noises to a reasonable level between reasonable hours, and only chose to enforce her property rights when people were trashing the area and causing alot of ecological damage to the surrounding area, including people trying to BBQ on her property and leaving dirty diapers and dog crap everywhere. After her requests for people to behave and clean up after themselves went ignored she chose to close her property to the majority of people, while creating a group for just the families in the immediate neighborhood so those families could continue to use and enjoy the creek through her property. She offered to allow for the continued use of her property to the general public if the county was willing to put her on their liability insurance and the county refused and told her they expected HER homeowners insurance to cover any injuries AND they still expected her to pay taxes on it as well. She offered the county to lease or buy the land from her, which they offered a measly lump of money under market value to buy, so she had to say no to that. So when they realized they weren't going to get her land for cheap or free, they chose to sue her in order to seize it by claiming adverse possession for the good of the community.

The comments were unnecessary from the reporters. She is a property owner who was sharing her property until people continuously disregarded park rules and she enforced her rights as a property owner. Then she gets harassed and the county wanted to basically steal her land in a “legal manner” by taking possession of it. As a property owner, I would demand the land be purchased from me if they are trying to take it. This wasn’t an imminent domain situation so the county was really overstepping. Also, keep in mind that if any of those rule breakers got injured, they’d be quick to try to sue her and when people sue you they try to go after everything you have. She did what she needed to do to protect her rights as a property owner and as someone who was potentially liable for someone getting injured on her property, simply for trying to be “nice”. This type of skewed reporting and commentary just ain’t it.

Your newscasters need to be careful with the words they use. Perhaps the person writing the teleprompter. Both the pre-meeting coverage and this, the words your casters said are tiptoeing the line of defamation. According to the official government documents, I.E. the land surveys she provided as evidence plus the more recent survey she paid to have done, the land WAS hers. She could have let it keep running all the way up to the Supreme Court and the county would have lost the access entirely. Settling by having the county pay her for the land so everyone can have the access was the least stressful option for her and the better option for the taxes payers who’s money was paying for these court fees. Singing a different tone now then a year ago. Yeah, because then she was trying to let the public still have access but they were being idiots. Saying and doing stupid shit both to the land and her. Hence why she closed it off. Now the county will legally have the control of the land and they can deal with the public destroying it and have to pay to keep repairing it as she was having to do.

Жыл бұрын
Why should the county pay for something they'd had free access to for 35 years and never had to bear responsibility for maintaining or liability for any injuries incurred by the public's use of for the previous 35 years? LOL The county saw it as a free extension of the park they didn't have to fund. When Taralyn rightly asserted her property rights and feared being liable for any injuries, both members of the public and the county got indignant, because they had been afforded free access for over three decades by the previous owners. She was upsetting the apple cart and making the county have to do their damn job. This didn't sit well with them. It didn't sit well with the entitled public who somehow believed the land was "stolen" by Taralyn, for whatever twisted reason. The county knew it wasn't theirs to use. They just didn't want to pay for it or spend money to create access at another point within park boundaries. This whole thing made the county look bad. It also made all the residents who felt entitled to Taralyn's land look like spoiled children having a tantrum. When the county decided to try and take the privately-owned land by force, that's when everything moved up to a whole other level. The government shouldn't have the right to arbitrarily take anyone's property because previous owners had allowed public use of it. The agreement was always finite, not in perpetuity. Taralyn was never informed of this when she purchased her home, either. I believe there's a lawsuit against the sellers over this pending. This is a win for property owners across the US. This sets precedence. Hopefully, the county also has to build a fence for demarcation of private and park/county lands, and all the entitled pearl-clutching residents of that town will STFU and leave Taralyn and her family alone now.

That closing comment/dialogue between the reports was completely out of pocket. She isn’t singing a different tune, she seems to be relishing in a similar relief afforded those who have just been cleared of a charge, even though it certainly seems to be a small relief. She will still have to be present and bear the hate of the people that wanted to abuse her property previously now that the land has been bought and turned legally public. The same people that flipped her the bird are still going to do it and now out of spite. I think the town of Kittredge should be held liable and blacklisted regarding tourism. The right of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness (property if you boil it back to John Locke) are what this country was founded upon and the people of that town attempted to use the local government to deprive the land owner of the last right of pursuit of happiness. Since that is the case, the citizenry outside of Kittredge, meaning every citizen of the US that is not a Kittredge resident, should not contribute their hard earned dollars to the citizenry of Kittredge until they hold their own people accountable. Allow them to see what pressures amount when their pursuit of happiness is impaired, but not through the evil government interference no, through the just hand of the people who can choose to not allow their manner of conduct to continue by making it unprofitable. Nothing will be taken from them, no lawsuits or confiscation, just a simple refusal to do commerce with them. Seeing how tourism is their main business, then let every traveler pass Kittredge by or circumnavigate the county completely and fuel, resupply, or lodge in some other city.

Yall are trying to protray her as a hungry-for-money monster: the off-cam reporter, the members of community, the anchor woman's comment... when she was actually victim of the county trying to f her over and the members of the community harrassing and attacking her. Shame on you. Yall need to do better

Good for her. Didn't have to be this way except for some spoiled brats they live in that town. Her land is her land so why was this so tough to understand.

Gotta say I am absolutely thrilled to see so many people in defense of property rights! This is the USA, not the UK or wherever it is that strangers are permitted to roam your private property. Everyone here who left a comment defending this lady's property rights, you need to feel great about yourself. You did the right thing.

Good it feels like everyone won in the end. But she is correct as a person who lived in Colorado for several years They are very pack like and they are very serious about the outdoors. They will never forget this. If I were her, I would move.

"Public gets park access" is totally loaded. The park was perfectly accessible before. The public received LEGAL access to the water way. Any people accessing that area before were trespassing.

I invite everyone here to read Atlas Shrugged, published 1957. Listen to the audio book if the size is daunting. If you believe in property rights, as the vast majority of commenters here clearly do, you will absolutely love Atlas Shrugged.

I'd tell all of these trumpy looking people to go pound sand and find another place to play as I wouldn't have been so nice. It's my land and all these so called humans are upset at the homeowner rather than understanding that it is now a private property & take your beef up w/the town if there's even anything to dispute. I doubt any of these horrible residents would have been as nice as this woman has been if it were their land/property. Absolutely disgusting behavior by the locals and the county and or town.

People don't like the payout? They think someone shouldn't be reimbursed for land they paid for? That's not the way eminent domain works folks. when the government takes land, they have to pay for it.

I thought news reporters were supposed to report the facts, unbiased and without personal opinions added in. "She's singing a very different tune now..." was quite uncalled for by that reporter. Since your reporters have glossed over the FACTS, here are just a few that perhaps you should be made aware of and report: She bought the land - she paid for it. She pays taxes on the land. She is the owner and does not deserve this witchhunt mentality from these small-minded residents. The woman commenting at 1:20 wants guarantees from the property owner and on her behaviors. Does anyone else demand guarantees on the behaviors of this woman and her property? Or anyone else in that town? The county FORCED the owner to give up part of her land - so they paid her for the land that she owned and did not want to sell. (Yes, I realize that they paid her for it, but she never had any intention of getting rid of it until the county sued her for it, forcing her to no longer own what was legally hers.) What gives everyone the right to attack this woman, simply because she owns some beautiful land that people brazenly trespass upon? You're all acting like a bunch of bratty, entitled, spoiled little toddlers! But instead of holding your breath over mommy & daddy not giving you anything you want, instead you hold meetings about the owner, and publicly attack her. "We want to go on your land, but you said no, so we'll just trespass and leave our trash everywhere on YOUR property." If someone did that to my family and the property that we have worked so very hard to purchase, that we OWN, believe me, I'd be as infuriated as this property owner, and I wouldn't stand for it either. Would you??

Some of the people in that town, acted spoiled, self entitled, rude, and arrogantly towards the lady. (With the adults proudly showing off their middle finger salutes on video, and some of the trespassing kids who were saying that her property was their property?) So basically they used the city, to get their way against the property owner. Via their complaining during their town hall meeting over how she should have her property taken from her? The U.S. has some spiteful and arrogant people acting as they will on other people's property. In some of the small towns across this country, as well as some of the urban areas.

Surely you aren't so naive and communist that you believe you shouldn't have full rights to the things you buy????

What they didn't tell you, the seller of the land didn't tell her that it was being used for publc access. He has to do that when selling. I heard she was sueing the person that sold the land to her. Not really her fault since she didn't know.
