A con for me is patience. Although I know my hair is growing, it’s hard for me to see progress. When I was a loose natural, I was able to track the progress. I know my locs will grow long, I just have to be patient.

I know this sounds counterintuitive but if you stop thinking about growth, it’ll grow. It’s like watching the clock when you wanna clock out 😂 When I was loose natural I was OBSESSED with length. And when I started my locs, I was still obsessed. Once I let go and focused on living and practicing being present, before I knew it it was 2 years and shoulder length.

I just started my locs January 20th I got my first retwist yesterday I’m loving this journey. I’m learning my hair, when I had loose natural I felt that it was more work to get it styles. And I was constantly buying things for my hair gels, curl activators, shampoo spent so much money. I started my locs to teach myself patience and come back to self love and acceptance of my hair n I’m love where at now.

A big con is patience but, then I started to look at it, kind of as a pro. I had to cut all my hair off due to breakage when I was in 8th grade. Took me all of high-school to grow healthy hair and have some length as well. I graduated June 9th 2021 with my hair back. *not the exact length from when I was a child but, it was a decent shoulder length.* I started my locs April 29th 2022. I’ve never seen this much growth in 4 *almost 5 months* vs those 5 years I struggled. Patience is key, I love my hair now. I just got a retwist a few days ago. My hair is now touching my back, I’m loving my journey. Good things come to those who wait!

#1 I’m so glad you have a new video up!!!!!!! #2 Your hair looks soooooo good!!!! #3 My cons: My hair gets really dry, so finding products that don’t cause build up can be a headache. Washing my hair can be a task because I have to separate at the roots so I can get everything out. #4 My pros: Everything you already said!lol It takes no time to style before work, the versatility of my locs, I see waaaaayyyyy more growth than when I had an Afro. I just love them!

I started my locs with mid back length hair, and now i'm 6 months in. My hair is just now locing, however I do still deal with unraveling here and there. My only con so far is that I don't like that the back of my hair is longer than the front. Im considering either cutting the back to match the front, or putting extensions on the front ones to match the back. Who knows! nonetheless, I have been in love with my journey.

Definitely decided to start my loc journey during COVID. So I’m past the awkward phase. Now 6 months in, I retwist and will only schedule retwist every 3 months. Definitely trying to break the PJ tendencies (oils, leave in conditioner, hair gel). Spending less on haircare ❤️❤️

Oh and when I started, I didn’t really do any research. I just saw them on Pinterest and fell in-love with them. My sister in-law installed mine, *I have instant locs* I started actually learning about locs within the last couple of months I’ve had them. Now I feel like I have a true connection with them. Also to touch on the products. I only use 2 products. Black castor oil and water 💀, hair been growing like crazy every since. Then you know shampoo and conditioner. I only wash once a month. Also my retwists usually last 3-4 weeks. I also experience a lot of frizz but, I don’t mind it, I like it actually.

I'm 9 months in. I love how much money I save by having locs. Im not a product junkie anymore. I retwist myself with very little aloe vera gel and I just tried a lion locs product that I really like. The only thing I hate is moisturizing after I retwist. The hair doesn't stay neat at all. I've experienced other cons in the beginning but they were all surrounding neatness. As my hair has gotten longer and more mature those cons have gone away as I'm hoping this con eventually will. Does your hair look less neat when you moisturize at 2 years in?
@JaninePatrice
3 жыл бұрын
Usually when I retwist, I’ll moisturize my locs and not the roots for two weeks to keep the retwist fresh! Then I’ll eventually moisturize the roots as well as time passes
@tsimmonds55

@@JaninePatrice oooooo that might help. Moisturizing the roots i think is what makes my hair looks so messy. Ill try after my next retwist
@biabia9181

The only cons I can think of is the time it takes me to retwist my starters rn (4-6 hours ~150 locs I haven’t done a loc count) and after a wash, the inside of the loc being damp when the outside is dry so it can trick me into thinking my hair is dry unless I squeeze each loc lol other than that I am having a great time. I am 2.5 months in. I started on heat damaged hair so I definitely have my own personal issues with my locs looking thin but my roots are healthy soft and thick. I think in a year or two my locs will get to a point where I can trim the thin ends. But honestly the ends look like goddess locs soft and curly so maybe I’ll just keep them 🤣 the pros are too long to fit in this comment. Just know I LOVE them so far lol.

How manageable are locs in a pool setting? Do they easily get frizzy?
@JaninePatrice
3 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on what stage the locs are in. The starter loc stage for about the first 6 months or so will frizz up a lot in a pool, but the more mature the locs are, the less likely they are to get frizzy. Hope that helps!
