Love Edmonton! Best way to experience it is to live centrally. The suburbs are all pretty much the same and pretty void of anything unique to Edmonton. Surrey, Calgary, Mississauga, and Edmonton all feel the same if you live far out. But the central areas of Edmonton are truly unique and full of character! Garneau, Strathcona, Westmount, Ritchie, Oliver, Riverdale, Highlands, etc. Those sorts of neighborhoods really give you the true Edmonton experience. Living outside the henday and driving to strip malls and other suburbs all the time is definitely not how I’d recommend experiencing this city. Sadly, due to cheap cookie cutter homes in new greenfield projects, people continue to move further out, increasing our tax burden, construction/maintenance costs, and decreasing our vibrancy and community.

THIS!!! ⬆️⬆️⬆️ And not just for Edmonton but for every city. My favourite parts of every city are the main pedestrian friendly streets like Whyte Ave in Edmonton or Stephen/17th Ave in Calgary or Robson St/Granville St in Vancouver and their surrounding neighbourhoods

AMEN! But fortunately we do have many people on our city who know this and are working to mitigate and reverse our course to more dense infill and efficient mass transit. It’s just so late will take a lot of work but will be so worth it. Edmontons future is bright!

This was a great video you two are so funny, positive and loving, such a beautiful family. I'm considering moving to Sherwood Park from Victoria and you are exactly the type of people I hope to meet and make new friendships with, so that's my #2 pro as well, and #1 affordability. That beautiful but gloomy or raining all the time describes Victoria/Vancouver perfectly. Thanks for putting this video together :)

Visited the city this past February. It's a lovely vibe but far too busy for this bumpkin's taste. I enjoyed your video and was actually pleased that 'shopping' (aka ease of access to all scales of retail) wasn't mentioned. I'm planning a photographic tour of Alberta next summer and will be pencilling in the Heritage Festival on my way back north. Best regards from Yukon.

A few more pros and cons: - The city bylaw; shoveling snow and clearing ice and snow from your driveway during winter months. - You need a good and reliable 4 X 4 or all-wheel drive car/truck to drive safely on icy/snowy roads. - You need a set of snow tires with STUDS - You always need to carry your hot coffee mug anywhere you go - Windshield cracks are very common in AB - You may mentally get exhausted, once or twice a year during winter months, sun destinations are a MUST.

I've just moved here and was planning on being slightly out of town for 3months but unfortunately was scammed for rent and security...I met the person and the house wasn't close to as advertised so now I'm in a panic to find something before end of Aug or Sept 1st so I'm looking for an overview of areas within the city. Not listening to just stereo types I understand over all large areas but maybe some great areas for dog owner without a car as I sold mine when I moved back to AB from NS and will be getting one sooner then later but if you have one of these videos already I will definitely watch it and thank you so much for your channel it's really fun and entertaining. Yes. The condo market in Edmonton is definitely going to be more affordable than Calgary at the moment. Just make sure you be diligent and pick the right location in Edmonton. Some of the best priced locations for condos in Edmonton have some other cons, so it is good to do your research if you don’t know the areas very well.

There is one thing I liked better about Edmonton vs Calgary - because Edmonton is at a lower altitude (about 1200 feet?), the air is denser there making for easier breathing and greater humidity which make the city a beautiful experience for about 1 week in springtime as the fragrances from all the blossoms are coming out - something that you can't notice in Calgary - and the smell of summer an fall; something else you can't notice in Calgary.

I moved from Calgary to Edmonton. Been here now for 2 years. We moved here because the education system/post secondary system is very strong. UofA has both a medical and dental school. The healthcare system is also much stronger. Downsides, We miss the proximity to the mountains. But we also find that Edmonton is not as dry as Calgary. So far, very satisfied with the move, we live in SW Edmonton. Highly recommend that area if anyone thinking of moving here.

You guys cracked me up. I have family in Edmonton so I am aware ... Hallowe'en ( others from around the world will have to Goggle it ;), ... a mere 3 or 4 hour drive (to a person from Europe or the Islands will think it was amazing) ... extremely short days in winter is a con just like the longer summer days are so welcome ... I missed the mature trees when I lived in Edmonton (new construction resulted due to need for rapid houses being built) ... now I live in Fort McMurray and wish I was closer to Edmonton. Hi I was wondering if you could tell me what the roads are like in the winter? I would love to just stay in lol but for work I cant. lol
@beachrealty
Жыл бұрын
That’s a great question. You will 100% want winter tires. The main roads usually get cleared fairly quickly, including the freeways and main arteries. If their is snow pack and ice build up, the city will use sand to help with traction. The neighbourhood streets tend to take longer to get cleared and therefore you will get a lot of snow packed neighbourhood streets. That’s where the winter tires come in handy for traction. Once you adjust to driving on the snow packed neighbourhood streets (driving a bit slower and leaving a little bit more distance between you and the car in front of you, it isn’t all that bad. I found driving in New Brunswick winters to be more challenging, with slushy roads, and more icy roads due to freezing rain and wet snowfalls. Edmonton has colder winters, so the snow is nice and fluffy and just gets packed down. All wheel drive comes in handy, if your vehicle has it. I hope that helps!

Windemere is in the deep suburbs and doesn’t really have any life or vibrancy to it. Left windemere and moved to west central, so much better. Quieter, actually walkable, close to the river valley (and the good parts of the valley…windemere section is just empty, Central Valley has tons of amazing parks and amenities), and there’s about to be 5 years of construction for the main entrance in and out of windemere. I wouldn’t touch with a 10ft pole tbh. Infill in mature areas is the best!

Thank you! That’s a great question. Overall, the weather and temperatures in both Calgary and Edmonton are very similar through the winter. The one big difference is that Calgary enjoys the benefits of the warm “Chinook” winds that blow in off of the mountains from time to time during the cold winter to offer a few days here and there where the temperature warms up drastically and feels like spring for a brief time before subsiding.

Edmonton is not the Sunniest City in Canada. Calgary Alberta is the sunniest city in the country with an Average of 330 days of Sun every year where as Edmonton Averages around 250 days of Sun, Which i love as people from Vancouver say its bullshit and they receive the most Sun in the Country which is false as Vancouver averages around 198 days of Sun every 365 days a year. It Rains More in Vancouver then Both Edmonton and Calgary and they do have Warmer winters however there winters are wetter that's for sure. Calgary sits Higher then any other city in the Country as well which is 1 factor in why Calgary sees an Average of 330 days of Sun every year. As well Calgary is only 1 hour from The rockie mountains of Bnaff and Canmore.

Thank you! All those pieces you mentioned are very true. Calgary is a beautiful city in an amazing location. You should do a video on Calgary! You are correct about Calgary being sunnier. @beachrealty
Жыл бұрын
Thanks again for you reply! I was thinking after I read your message…something seems off with the numbers. I knew Calgary had a bit more sunshine each year, but I though it was much closer than what you had noted. Out of curiosity, I did some looking into it and found that Calgary has approximately 335 days of sunshine per year and Edmonton has about 325. In terms of hours of sunshine, I believe Calgary receives about 50 hours more of sunshine each year. Vancouver has a fair amount of days that they receive bright sunshine at 290 days a year; however, the total hours of sunshine are significantly less in a year at approximately 1950 hours in a year compared to Calgary’s 2396 hours and Edmonton’s 2345 hours.

There's more rain in Vancouver because generally there is no snow. So of course in the winter it rains. Winter meaning not below 0 C. But May to September it's pretty much all sunshine and no storms like on the prairies. The Vancouver rain is greatly overexaggerated. The cold in Edmonton and dark cannot be understood until experienced.

LOL... pretty much all of Canada has winter too long and summer too short. The ONLY place you can go to escape that somewhat is the Vancouver area along with Victoria. On the plus side, those long winters reduce yard work considerably. If ever you discover some of the awesome hiking trails in the mountains, you may wind up moving to Calgary.

@beachrealty

Hi Puneet. Great question! Unfortunately, that is very much out of my area of expertise. There are a couple very large engineering firms in Edmonton, most notably Stantec. I am sure there are many smaller firms as well. That’s something you will definitely want to research prior to committing to make a move.
@mlb3135

As far as I can remember, jobs anywhere in Civil Engineering are tough to get due to so many people trying to get into that field. I would suggest something related to it such as project management in construction (commercial or industrial), maintenance, etc. And should you go that route, you will have far more options to choose from.
