Hey Lee, I'm a long time Laser sailor getting into Sunfish. I've been using your videos all winter to get the boats ready, the Sunfish is great. As a Laser sailor, I've been using a 2 to 1 mainsheet for years and have rigged my Sunfish this way. Your tale about the mainsheet wrapping around the hiking strap as you bear off downwind is right on, it happens to me all the time in my Laser, and I've learned to deal with it. You can minimize the problem by tying the end of your mainsheet to the aft hiking strap attachment point or by putting it through the aft hiking strap loop. By capturing the end, you minimize tangles and make the tangles easier to pull out. To be able to attach the end, you need a slightly longer mainsheet, I'm using 42 or 43 feet. The same as a Laser. Thanks again.

You are right! I used a 42’ and tied the end to the aft hiking strap…. Was still too long…. When the sheet floated with all the cockpit wayer thats when it wrapped up within itself…. Thank you for the comment! And welcome to the sunfish!

Aloha Lee, bought a Sunfish Wednesday, picked it up this past Saturday, sailed around Kahului Harbor Sunday (yesterday). Really enjoy binge-watching your videos and have plans for this little boat. If you ever make it to Maui, my 9 year old son and I would love to meet you. Mahalo!

Congratulations Lee! After your last video on the 2:1 mainsheet, I rigged one on my boat and am very happy with it. Rather than lash the block to the traveller, I used a small soft shackle that I made out of 5/32" dyneema that works great.

Lee - I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed your videos - this year I have abandoned my partnership in a Tartan 27 (hole to dump money in) to get back to real sailing and was on the look out for a Sunfish - unfortunately early in the season these were pretty scarce in my neck of the woods. Instead bought a well used Zuma and while enjoyable has many minuses in setting up, parts and getting out on the water and performance all issues that a Sunfish does not have. So will continue the search ! Thanks again!

Another comment about the 2:1 block getting stuck on the bridle if the tension comes off it. You can use an old Laser trick. Use a second block on the bridle, the class rules allow it, and the bridle eyes and nicopress will fit through the block. Then you wrap electrical tape around the points where the two blocks meet, kind of like a dumbbell or a figure 8. You end up with something that won't get stuck. I don't think the class rules would have a problem with wrapping tape between the blocks. Note that you do need to remove the bridle from one of the deck eyes in order to run it through the extra block.

Using two blocks is not class legal as of now, bit your idea would work for the rest of those who dont race in class sanctioned events. Thank you!
