Plus I still have stages of depressions once in a while so don’t think it has the best effect on me (anymore). I was changed over to Zoloft not long ago while also remaining on Wellbutrin as an adjunct from my previous trial. I know I am taking an adjunct with it, but compared to the last anti-depressant I was on(which served me very well for 2 years cannot complain), I feel more "awake" and overall more sociable. I especially see a huge improvement on the OCD side for me.

Do you exercise and deploy a healthy diet and get good sleep? I was on SSRI for 23 years. They helped in the beginning but they caused myself many problems in the long term. I cured my depression, anxiety and substance abuse with simple habits that have to do with my over all health. I know it works but it also has many pit falls. They took away my ability to feel emotions and zeal for life.

@KalRi kelari that is the most common withdrawal symptom from most SSRIs.... I tapered off in 6 months. Was at 20 mgs. Went down 5 mgs. Every 2 months or so until I was off. I'm still enduring symptoms. The brain zaps went away for me at about the 6-8 week mark.... my best suggestion is to stay on until you are physically and mentally at your healthiest. It makes the symptoms manageable and it may fix your underlying issues. God Bless! Hope you find your peace.

Any experience with detoxing from a heavy caffeine habit while on sertraline? I’ve heard that by removing caffeine (assume 200-400mg consumed daily) after a few days the body begins to readjust and production of seratonin or similar substances begins to ramp up naturally. Wondering how this might affect those on lower dose Sertraline who have been consuming caffeine daily the entire time they were on sertraline. Thanks for any insights you could share!

Do you know the difference between Zoloft and Abilify in how they work? Thank you so much 😊
@astromoonie
Жыл бұрын
Zoloft is an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor). It works by preventing the reuptake of serotonin in the brain. ‘After carrying a message, serotonin is usually reabsorbed by the nerve cells (known as "reuptake"). SSRIs work by blocking ("inhibiting") reuptake, meaning more serotonin is available to pass further messages between nearby nerve cells.’ Some mental illnesses have been linked to low levels of serotonin, and so by increasing the brains amount of serotonin, it’s thought to have a therapeutic effect and improve overall brain function. Abilify is an antipsychotic. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter similar to serotonin, but in dopamines case, some mental disorders have been linked to an instability in dopamine levels, “too much” dopamine. Antipsychotics generally work by blocking some of the brains dopamine receptors so that a normal neurochemical balance can be achieved. Abilify is an atypical antipsychotic that reduces dopamine activity where it is too high, and also increasing dopamine activity in areas of the brain where it is too low. Antipsychotics too can have a therapeutic effect and improve overall brain function for many patients, not just those with psychotic disorders. (: Hope that helps **edit TLDR SSRIs (like Zoloft) help the brain maximize on serotonin, while antipsychotics (like Abilify) help the brain stop an overproduction of dopamine, or use dopamine more efficiently.
