I think MetLife Stadium is an awesome stadium. The only reason it is "soulless" is due to the fact that it shares teams, and the SoFi comparison is unfair. And open air in a cold region is an home field advantage, not a disadvantage. If the Jets want to move out, let them! Then, the Giants could FINALLY make the blue permanent. Blue seats, blue red accents everywhere, their own stadium.

Fact - Neither the Jets OR Giants have expressed any interest in moving out of New Jersey and into New York. Fact - You may not like MetLife Stadium, But it works. The success of that building speaks for itself. Fact - MetLife Stadium is a clean well balanced stadium that has improvements to the field conditions and more. Fact - If MetLife was all bad - It would not have beaten So Fi and AT&T stadium for the rights to host World Cup Finals. Fact - You never mentioned the biggest CON. When it comes to moving to New York, New Yorks legendary traffic is 10 times worse than the Jersey Meadowlands. Ask anybody who goes to any Yankee & Mets game or even an event in Madison Square Garden. There are reasons why the Giants and Jets moved to Jersey many years ago. Go look it up. Fact - The training facilities are flat out better in New Jersey than they ever were in New York. FINAL FACT - The Giants & Jets have a steady following and a sure thing in Jersey just across the Hudson of New York. Why risk problems now ? If something works - Don't fix it.

I live in Queens and I think I can comment on this. Right now - There is practically no chance of a Football Stadium being built in Queens. There were/are a bunch of Chop Shops next to Citi Field - Basically they have been bought up or offered to move elsewhere - the Bronx, etc, and that is where the new Soccer Stadium is being built. There is a rule in New York - If you take Parkland, you have to replace it. When the current Yankee Stadium was built - Parkland was taken - So where the Old Stadium was, there are now 3 Softball Fields (Heritage Field), a Soccer Field, etc - The Parkland was replaced. Originally a Soccer Stadium was proposed in Flushing Meadow Park - The Community objected, you're taking Parkland - It didn't happen - So forget about a Football Stadium in Flushing Park unless the law is changed, etc. The plan you showed for the area next to Citi Field that Steven Cohen wants to develop (currently parking) - Even though there isn't a park there, at least some of it is considered Parkland - Hence there is a movement to avoid things form being built - Stay Tuned. Also - The West Side would have/would be a disaster. It's across the street from the Javits Center and there is no room for parking there - Football, tailgating, etc - It just would not have worked. Unless there is an area in Nassau County, I don't think they Jets are going anywhere. Unlike Giants Stadium, where the Jets were a tenant to the Giants (As the Chargers are now to the Rams), they share Metlife Stadium. Yes, a lot of Jet Fans in the NY Area complain about the trip to games - But this is Football - One Game a week for 16 Weeks - 8 or 9 Home Games (Most on the weekend), and possibly 2 Playoff Games (not Counting Preseason). From what I can tell, Jet Fans still come out. If and when Metlife Stadium "ages out", I'm sure the Giants and Jets will chip in again for a new Stadium, again building it next to the current one, and this one probably will be one that ages better. I have not seen a Footbal Game at Metlife, but have been to multiple concerts and was at Giants Stadium as well. If felt like they took Giants Stadium turned it Grey (The color of the seats - By they way I don't care - It's not they worst color and when people are in them, what does it matter) and made it a bit flatter. I think the Stadium okay, but I guess in the minority.

I think the West side stadium over the LIRR tracks would have worked. First, the #7 has been extended west to Hudson Yards so plenty would arrive by subway. Also the stadium would have been built above the LIRR storage yard and a platform could have been built there which would make it super convenient for anyone coming from LI, where most of the Jets fan base lives. But, the Dolan's killed it so its a moot point. You're 100% on the money with regard to park space. If a developer takes park space, it has to be replaced. The CitiField parking lot sits on the site of the old Shea Stadium which was considered parkland. So even though its a parking lot, its still "parkland" as strange as that may seem. That being the case, developing anything other than parkland is out unless the developer wants to go thru a 20 year rezoning process. So the only viable option to me seems to be to build it over the MTA Flushing Line yards just south of CitiField. A similar plan to build a stadium over the Sunnyside rail yards was offered back in the early 70's in an attempt to keep the Giants in NYC. However, building a domed stadium over rail yards could be prohibitively expensive. Having said all that, I still can't see Woody Johnson, a lifelong Jersey resident, moving his team to Queens.

@@frogger1952 Your point about rhe 7 Train Extension - Even though MSG is right above Penn Station, from what I read once, most people coming to events still drive there. If you live in the 5 Bouroughs, or close to the railroad, I would not think it would be the case, but apparently it is. In Football even more so - Tailgating is a huge part for so many fans going to the Game, so the 7 Train extension would not have mattered. And if they had underground parking garages, I think it would rob from the feel of Tailgating. As you said, it's moot, they didn't build it, but if they ever revisted it, I think the same issues would arise. As I wrote, barring some area in Nassau County being available, I think both the Giants and Jets are staying in the Meadowlands.

@GeneralZodFDNY77

No chance. I currently own a home in Ozone Park across from Aqueduct and have been in this neighborhood sonce the Flea Market was on the site before the casino. And I can tell you the likelihood of a football stadium being built there is virtually nonexistent. One, the City Council is already looking at the 210 acre site Aqueduct sits on for more affordable housing. The current Council President, Adrienne Adams, represents South Ozone Park on the Council and is hard core pushing for housing. And anything that includes housing for a growing Queens population, the community is all for. Two, Resorts World Casino currently has a $5 billion proposal ready should the state grant them a downstate casino license next year when they vote on it. The community is tentatively on board with this since that proposal will also include 3,000 additional housing units and more year round jobs to the area. The state is looking like they will vote yes to the casino project, so that is more likely than any other proposal. Unless the Jets are willing to front almost all of the money for the stadium, meaning taking no taxpayer money for the project like NYCFC is doing with their $780 million stadium in Willets Point, and include affordable housing nearby to placate the City Council, a stadium on Aqueduct isn't happening. As a Jets fan, I would love to have my stadium walking distance from home. But alas, not happening.

Most Jet fans are from NJ. Being a 50 year season ticket holder the Jets only sold out Shea 5 or 6 years out of 23. That was in a smaller crappy baseball stadium not made for football. Met Life is a football stadium that has been sold out 43 years in a row with waiting lists. I also have known people who work for the team and 50 thousand are Jersey and about 30 thou from NY. Long Island is just a bad sports area. The Islanders have had bad attendance for years. Give the new building a few years and will see what happens. The Yankees out draw the Mets every year. I am a Met fan but that is a fact. The Brooklyn Nets also have terrible attendance. You can't go back to a stadium that doesn't exist. You also don't have the fan support that New Jersey has. You know at some point that the local, regional and statewide taxpayer is going to say enough! Every 10, 15 or 20 years you guys (owners) come back saying we need facilities (arenas or stadiums)! Now with the price of these palaces of professional sports exceeding north of $1.5 or so billion dollars even the most populous metropolitan areas are going to run out of funds and patience with a cycle of every 10 or 15 years of ownership asking for newer palaces!

The question is: where would it go? Steve Cohen already plans to rebuild Citi Field's parking lot with a hotel and casino. If a new Jets stadium were located adjacent to Citi Field, those plans would require significant revisions. Can they build the stadium over the MTA railyard? I have no idea, but it sounds like an engineering nightmare. One space that could potentially work is the northern end of Flushing Corona Park, east of the USTA center. However, they must tear down the Practice Tennis Courts, the World Ice Arena, and the Pitch and putt. Environmental reviews will also be required as the stadium must relocate the mouth of a tributary. The latter option is the most realistic, but it will require taking a big chunk of Flushing Meadows Corona Park and building a world-class stadium. On the upside, transit will be straightforward to get to Grand Central and Penn Station.

Sharing stadiums/arenas always seems to, one way or another, relegate one of the tenants to second-class status. Happened with the Chargers at SoFi, and with the Clippers at (formerly) Staples Center. Would've also happened if the Knicks and Nets had to share the Garden.From what I gather, the Jets are more a Long Island team, so perhaps a move out to the UBS Arena could suffice. Should be interesting.
@Fatblue246
4 ай бұрын
UBS arena is indoors and is specifically a hockey arena lmao, it would not work at all for football. has a capacity of like MAYBE 30k. The Jets while primarily an LI team aren’t SOLELY and LI team and their dynamic with the giants really isn’t 1-1 with the chargers and rams. Chargers lost their fans because they left their market and moved to an already pretty saturated one. This isn’t the case with the Jets like remotely. No one in NY really perceives the Jets as the “lesser” team than the Giants(likely because they’ve both been ass for a while)if anything both get clowned on by Bills fans now as they “don’t play in NY”(like buffalo a city that borders canada and is 6+ hours away from NYC is anymore legitimate but i digress). Both teams have pretty good attendance and are 2 of the most valuable franchises in the league so this idea that the Jets are like a B team isn’t really apt. It’s not like metlife is even close to empty at Jets games, and considering how ASS the Jets have been for the last 10 years plus that alone kinda shows you it’s not really a Clippers situation. Nets also have second class status in NY despite having their own stadium lol, i genuinely do not know a single Nets fan and im from Long Island where they originally played during the ABA days. It’s just an NJ team to the NY mind and always will be, and their attendance reflects that lol. If you look, the Knicks are 5th in attendance overall last season in terms of attendance and the Nets are 21st lmao, and they’re in NYC not some small market. To give you more context, the NY giants were 2nd in attendance overall last season and the Jets were in 3rd, with only a 2k difference in the average and that’s with the Jets having a brutally disappointing season. Essentially, there’s more to these dynamics than you’re either privy to or giving credit to, which is all good it doesn’t sound like you’re from the area so it makes sense. Having your own stadium doesn’t guarantee attendance or flow, there’s a lot more to it than that. As far as moving to LI that’s likely out of the question, as a Long Islander getting to and from LI is the fucking worst. LI people are incredibly LI centric and will bend over backwards trying to tell you how a stadium in Nassau would work but it just wouldn’t. We have next to no public transit options and the traffic in the area near the coliseum/NCC is already HEINOUS without a massive 65k+ stadium being shoved right in the middle of all of it. Trust me I wish it would make sense Id love to not have to go to NJ for games but logistically it’s not sound, and they’d get 0 taxpayer funds from Nassau residents they already have like the 3rd highest taxes in the country with minimal services to show for it

NYCFC stadium isn’t potential anymore the vote passed for development last month, it’s being built as well as all the new housing etc. Also metlife doesn’t really feel like a “giants home stadium” their fans complain just as much, that’s definitely a non NY perspective and not really how either fan base views things lol. Attendance reflects that too they’re both within parity with the Jets even outperforming the Giants at times, and both are in top 3 in the league for attendance. The Rams regularly out perform the Chargers attendance and media coverage wise by a lot, to act like this is 1-1 with the sports situation in NY is incredibly tone deaf. should’ve left this one in the drafts dawg

The idiocy you spout constantly is amazing. This time, I have to say something. The one thing you have zero clue about is how building any entertainment venue of that size works in NYC. I not only live in Queens for 30 of my 46 years on earth, but have been a member of the FDNY for 23 years and for the Parks Department a few years before that. And trust me when I say the Jets moving to Queens is a pipe dream that in all likelihood doesn't happen in my lifetime. And I'm a Jets fan saying this. The communities and the local politicians will not go for sporting venues being built with tax payer funds going towards it anymore. Not unless any projects include a fuckton more affordable housing attached to it and there is no loss of any public park space. One example of utilizing public park space for a stadium getting approved is the current Yankee Stadium. Only reason it worked is because they built on Macombs Dam Park across the street from the original Stadium, then replaced the park by using the space where the original Stadium was. Basically a land swap. You will not get the same deal in Queens at any public parks space anywhere. Also, the residents here are not going to be okay with tax payer money going towards this. NYCFC only got their stadium green lit because their owners are paying for the entire thing themselves. All $780 million with none of that coming from the tax payers. Add to that the housing, school, and new police precinct attached to the deal and that is why the community politicians and many residents got behind the project leading to it's approval by the City Council. Queens is a pipe dream. Let it go.
@Fatblue246
4 ай бұрын
just a correction, the city/state is paying for the housing and associated green space etc in the NYCFC deal. The redevelopment is not entirely privately funded just the stadium is. So in THEORY if there WAS actually a plausible space for a new stadium(there isn’t atm but things change)then it’s not entirely out of the question for SOME public funding to be had but ONLY for the added redevelopment that will now be required and ONLY if they fund the entirety of the stadium itself privately. This isn’t very likely to happen, but that being said people were saying the same shit about the NYCFC stadium and a new one in Nassau for the Islanders so you never know. That being said, I don’t think the Jets really want out of Metlife that bad, more the fan base and even then it’s not really for logical reasons more just to say we play in NY. Logistically going to any football game in the NYC metro area is gonna be a pain in the ass as it’s a tailgate culture and the city just isn’t car friendly, and the suburbs really aren’t that car friendly at this point either. By and large I entirely agree with what you’re saying, and this guy constantly talks out of his ass it’s crazy. People speaking about the dynamics of NY sports in the comments also sound like the live on mars, calling the Jets the “secondary team” when they are essentially on par attendance and media coverage wise as the Giants. Overall just more people talking out of their ass about the cradle of civilization

think it’s more the fact that no one besides NJ people want either of these teams to play in NJ. NJ and NY very much have a big bro little bro mentality, so for a NY sports fan base, being relegated to playing in NJ is super embarrassing even if it makes more logistical sense. For example, NYCFC’s biggest dig towards the red bulls is that they don’t even play in NYC. Bills(who really aren’t even NY but i digress)also throw shit with the same remarks. So it’s more a point of pride really. Not to mention metlife is ugly and lacks really any character that giants stadium had(saying this as a Jets fan)so i get the critique on that end as well though personally idrc as im not a giants fan and would prefer a neutral stadium if we must share. Realistically though, neither of these teams are moving back to NYC any time soon it’s not logistically sound

You can’t build an NFL stadium in NYC proper because not only is there not enough room for parking, it would also make traffic which is already bad enough in Queens as it is. For an NFL you need at least 70 acres and this site is only. The only way for either team to come back to NY would to be to go out to the Suburbs. More specifically for the Giants it would to be Yonkers in Weschester County, NY just east of the Empire City Casino. And for the Jets it would have to be in Nassau County just south of the Nassau County Coliseum.
