thank you for reminding me about the pros of being able to continue to practice my craft,art and skills. I just joined a small creative marketing team as a photographer that manages marketing and content for a bunch of restaurants and other businesses in a shopping complex and it really is pushing me to my limits like never before. its pushed me to learn more about photography, videography, social media marketing. and so much more. I was seriously feeling burnt out and so frazzled but you reminded me that this is all growing pains and i just need to look at it all from a different perspective and if I had never gotten into this position i would have just been stuck photographing weddings and the odd portrait here and there. Thanks Kayla!

I’d never be at work until 10pm, that’s just abuse. I can’t understand how people throw away their work life balance like that and companies are set up to extremely overwork their employees. Balance is definitely one of my priorities

Thanks for this video. It's become crystal clear to me that this is the professional environment I belong in....something that would be helpful would be a video on what creative agencies are looking for from a recruitment perspective. How to get a foot in the door. What your interview experience was like...etc.

They want someone with a portfolio of work, ideally someone has already been doing this at a competitive agency, preferably one that does a better job at the job than their company. Or someone who is looking for a job upgrade who is willing to work for less than the person who currently has the job that they will lay off in the near future.

Creative jobs can be very draining, and people don't realize the time and effort creating posters, social media content etc takes. The other night i dreamt about a powerpoint presentation I was working on and could actually see myself moving pixel boxes around in dream. Your brain is wired full time

Thanks for the posting! I was getting confused on WHICH Career path I should follow..now I know. BTW.. what are your opinions about older workers starting a second career in Advertising?
@msmith1418
4 жыл бұрын
DON'T DO IT! There is *A LOT* of discrimination in the Advertising industry. And they get away with it! People in this industry find themselves getting permanently laid off or fired by the age of 35. If you think you will get a life long career in Advertising, you will be sadly mistaken. There is *A LOT* of competition. People in this industry are bouncing from job to job.. agency to agency... because there is *ABSOLUTELY NO* JOB SECURITY.

Was it easy getting a job after graduating? What if you’re good at making art and music? Can you use both for an advertising agency?
@msmith1418
4 жыл бұрын
Find a college that has internship as part of the course. That way it gives you a foot in the door, as well as you will know what to expect if working in an agency. On the art and music.. it depends on what ad campaign you are working on or the type of advertising that may require that talent.

I want to become a Peggy Olson!!! ✊🏻 and I think it’s interesting your social media manager and a copyrighter? You can have both jobs? I feel like I wanna get into advertising because I have the creative skills as a basis and potential to gain the extra skills needed for the job like photoshop and everything else I need to study. But idk what actual job I am looking to get. I feel like I could do copyrighting or social media or even art so idk lol help me 😂

There is *no job security* in the advertising industry. People working in this industry bounce from job to job.. agency to agency to get ahead. By the time you reach 35 years of age, you will find yourself permanently *laid off* or *fired* to make room for the younger talent, because of stereotypical views of the older worker by upper management and sometimes clients.

@@chloep8808 if you don’t mind me asking but how did you go about it
@chloep8808
4 жыл бұрын
@@matilda1744 I started from the bottom. Worked as a social media executive (client-side) until I eventually became head of digital marketing. From there I made the switch to work at an advertising agency as a senior account manager.and progressed to being the client lead. I had to learn fast as it’s a completely different ball game from working client side, and there were multiple times where I wanted to quit (MULTIPLE) due to longer hours, much more stressful working environment, zero work life balance when close to the delivery date.. but it’s different everyday and very exciting. The pace is great, you’re hardly sat there twiddling your thumbs. You work with a multitude of different personalities from the client services team, project managers, creatives, media buyers, and producers. Would I do it all again knowing what I know now? Absolutely.

Go to a university.. major in advertising or communications... then INTERN. Probably the most important thing you can do.
