Moved here in August off ft Pickens - the people! The people here are the sweetest! People just start having conversations with you - that didn’t happen in St. Louis where I moved from. An honest con not mentioned is the lack of affordable housing and/or lack of jobs that pay enough to afford the average housing cost. While it is true that the average housing cost in Pensacola is relatively low, it is also true that the average wages in Pensacola are too low to afford the available housing.
@LivinginPensacolaFlorida

Thank you for watching and commenting. There actually is quite a bit of affordable housing. We are actually going to do a video on that next week. I don’t even go over there anymore. Haven’t been in 20 years and don’t ever plan on going. Not ever again. I’m 63, my wife is 63 and both of us knew what it was like for us in our teenage years/20s etc. it was 100% better. We could ride three wheelers on the beach back then, we could ride horses, 4x4. Over at what is called Fort McRee, you still could all the way to the very end and you could stand and see Fort Pickens. My mothers side of the family has been here for 4 generations. Not my fathers side. What I tell people I am an accident. The only reason I was born here is my dad was a Navy captain during the Korean War and after the war he got stationed here and met my mom and she got pregnant with me after they met one night at a Marine/Navy Officers Ball. They got married. My dad is, well was from NW Montana. Beautiful little town of Eureka. Which I have a lot of family in Northwest Montana and SW Montana and I go back quite often. I don’t work here, never have except when I was a teenager. I work in North Dakota Montana and Wyoming and I much prefer that and I prefer the weather. I have a home I inherited over off Scenic Highway, I rent out to a cousin of mine that is a helicopter pilot offshore in Louisiana.

Moved to Pensacola 15 yrs ago. I have a BBA in Marketing and minor in Geography and French. Jobs here, you must know someone to get a good paying job. I am still seen as an outside. NFCU hired me at $13/hr with exceeds expectations on their Performance reports. Worked there 4 yrs until I was placed in a satellite location and get sick - alot of building have mould here and I have COPD. The building has been condemned but was still used. Had to leave on a work injury - mould cause alot of illness. Got some hotel jobs. Offered Asst Gen Mgr of a chain hotel - $9.50/hr. Other chains working overnight $10/hr. In 15 yrs in Pensacola, I have 4 yrs of medical coverage - jobs here don't offer (forget any paid holidays), I average about $18k/yr full time. Crime - I lived in Warrington and eventually sold my home as the crime was out of control during Sheriff Morgan's tenure. Had county commissioner at my home to discuss drug dealing, prostitution, theft, and general trash allowed. He said they way county is set up, sheriff isn't responsible back to commissioners. Sheriff found it easier and profitable to go after tourist at the beach vs the actual crime hot spots. Before you move here, look at the shift in population FROM Escambia County (Pensacola) to other counties. Everyone moving to Santa Rosa. Pensacola newest problem is the homeless camps on Cervantes, Davis Hwy, Mobile Hwy, W St, Jackson St - these are real street with trash from camps and people sleeping on sidewalks. I will soon be moving from this area. Yes Pensacola is in Florida but called 'Lower Alabama'. Last ai heard, Escambia County is the poorest county in FL and had the highest STD rate. You have a decent chance at getting shot at a random drive by. Also Pensacola has US 3rd worst Superfund EPA site that no one is talking about - 3910 N Palafox St.

Here's some truth about Pensacola from someone who has lived here most of their life: •If you're not already wealthy or a member of one of the elite families that run Pensacola don't move here, you won't be able to find work that pays much more than minimum wage out the gate. •Pensacola has the worst surfers in the world because we have some of the worst surf possible. •Downtown might be a decent size but there's literally nothing to do downtown, it's nothing like downtown in a real city. Downtown Pensacola literally consists of like 3 bars, 6 restaurants (including Subway). •Gallery night is nothing, they block a small section of a street and sell over-priced street beers •The bridge was already destroyed a couple months after it opened, our economy is currently suffering big time because the bridge is out, Gulf Breeze is turning into a ghost town when that's where all the money is around here. •We don't have a lot of festivals, we have like two, the crawfish festival and seafood festival and the entirety of those festivals is paying 12-20 bucks for entry into said festival and the ability to spend even more money on over priced soggy hushpuppies. •There's zero culture in this town, we have one performing arts theater. We have four kinds of restaurants: overpriced seafood (why is Gulf caught seafood SOOOO expensive when you're literally eating on the Gulf?), garbage Mexican restaurants, fast food and actual good restaurants that the community won't support so they go under in a year. •Don't move here. He's really making it sound SO much better than it actually is. Pensacola is honestly a terrible place to live, has been my entire life. •Be careful, a lot of people move here and get stuck never to leave again. This place is an economic black hole. You'll find a decent place live, sure it's overpriced for what you're getting but you're just happy to have found a spot. Your job has no room for growth because everyone who makes any real money at the company you work for has an under qualified nephew who needs a job. Now you're stuck making 12 bucks an hour for a job you're wildly over qualified for while your rent gets steadily raised if you live anywhere affordable until you barely make enough to survive, no hope of ever saving up any money to move to a real city. •If you're one of those types of people who has to make money to survive this is a terrible town for you. If you're already wealthy (like...really wealthy) and want to live near a pretty beach...there are much better options. I'm sure you represented your experience in Pensacola (clear to any locals you embellished pretty hard for the video) but if you come from a working class family this will not be your experience. Just wanted to add some honest balance for anyone watching this video.

Sorry if this was posted in one of the previous 800 comments but the elephant in the room for me is the homeowner insurance. One must factor in the higher premium that would otherwise pay for a home with $100k more value. Other pros of Pensacola are yearly Rennaisance fairs with jousting, belly dancing, fire breathers etc,.(pre covid), Penacon which has been getting bigger every year spilling out of the convention center to local theaters and hotels. Speaking of theaters, Saenger theater is great. They host the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra and a variety of plays and other events. And the Civic center has big name bands, hockey, monster trucks, gun shows etc. McGuires Irish bar and grill is famous for large portions, their homemade beers, live Irish music, different themed rooms and of course the million dollar bills hanging from the ceiling.

Lived there for 3 years. Enjoyed living there. However, you get all four seasons (summer, winter spring, fall) You will not want to go to the beaches in the winter because it can get very cold. Most people are very nice but very conservative. Alternative lifestyles are tolerated but not fully accepted. Jobs are very low paying. Schools are very good. You will mostly see white and black Americans however you will not see many other ethnic groups.

I lived in the panhandle here for 30 years you can still go to the beach in the winter, it is the best, mostly just locals, time of year the surfers get more optimal waves, water temp is cold so you need to wear a wet suit, many days are in the 60s and 70s with no wind in the winter, it was in the low 70s on my birthday in January.

as of today 7/29/2021: I am out of state, never been to Pensacola and offered to buy a house in Pensacola (missed the offer, someone bought higher). I can tell you that Pensacola is expensive now. The price is super high compared to most hot market like Califonia and WA. house price in Pensacola was double in the last 2 years. The main reason is out of state buying, it will quickly become a vacation town with expensive homes. As of today (yes today) i saw price drop across the board on those hot states, expect Pensacola will be the same soon.

Can you expand on the weather, particularly compared to San Diego and time of year? I lived in SoCal all my life and it can be very different depending on exactly where you live because of all the microclimates here. I live in Ventura, which is almost exactly like SD weather wise, very mild winters/summers with low humidity even when the cities 35 miles over are +- 20 degrees Both times I have visited Pensacola, I got lucky and the weather was nice with low humidity so it's hard to judge. Pensacola is on my short list of places to move to and I'm going to be visiting this November again to try and make a decision.

From about April 1st to October 1st you can expect 85-90F and 75% or over humidity. It's truly dreadful unless you're heading to the beach. There is a lot of homelessness, drug use, drive by shootings, and many other downfalls around the area. You should be specific about the area that you encourage people to move to. Also, the traffic is a nightmare on most days, and access to local government is a real hassle most of the time. BUT...the beaches are the bomb! IF you can get to them. Most are unfortunately, not easily accessible. Just realized that you are a real estate agent lol. I understand why you didn't mention the pitfalls above. It's a nice place to live if you're on the wealthy side, otherwise, not so great.

@@LivinginPensacolaFlorida I think what I was intending to get across is that certain parts of Pensacola are nice if you can afford to live there. Other parts of Pensacola are not so nice, for instance, there are gorgeous old homes that run along Cervantes street. There is also, almost daily, drive by shootings, robberies, drug dealing, homeless abound, etc. I also was trying to point out that probably 75% of the beaches are not accessible due to privatization. The bottom line I wanted to convey is that, yes, it would be a nice place to live if you are on the wealthy side.
