Hello. I have been doing a bit of research with pendulums. I have arrived at the conclusion that to get the most work from a pendulum that it must be powered from the farthest point away from the pivot point. One way to do this is to manipulate the mass when it is weightless or reversing directions. Because it is weightless or falling it takes very little energy to manipulate it. Power in at the pivot point will always be equal to power out less the friction losses.

Good to see you back at it! Not sure if you are aware of other switching techniques instead of trying to make a gold comutator, and i believe carbon brushes is the standard material for that application anyways, correct me if im wrong but i think you will still get the metal welding going on in the arc with gold contacts, it just wont tarnish. Also a single contact is not going to trigger at the ideal time in both directions, im sure your losing efficiency with that single trigger. You would ideally have 2 contacts independantly adjustable so you can trigger just after top dead center forward swing with one switch, and just after top dead center backward swing with the other switch. But the easiest thing i can think of is to just add a trigger coil to your coil so you can just use a transistor to trigger it and the timing would always be perfect right past TDC. Simple bedini circuit is all you need, probably 10$ worth of parts and no mechanical contact necessary. Here is a guy already doing it with the 2 stage oscilator. kzitem.info/news/bejne/tox53IRrbHOmaWU Other options would be hall switches and opto switches but i would probably just start with the simple trigger coil and transistor and use a variable resistor in the circuit so you can effectivly set the dwell of the pulse.

codygillespie carbon brushes would be a solution. However a relay with a reed switch trigger may work better.

Hook a fluorescent light to each side of the contacts where the arcing is happening. In between the contacts. :)

Hi, add a blocking diode to the coil It will stop the arcing.
